I don't know if it will work, and I don't recommend to try it, have no idea what they can do with your IMEI

The other way I see is reaching att support and make them clarify controversial statements, or just go full Karen

It doesn't work
Care to elaborate? Did you buy the AT&T fold3 and pay in full? What did the ebay unlocker exactly say?

Okay just wanted to make sure this seemed correct

For the upgrade fee, any idea whether this would require calling Verizon to discuss even though the order is placed through BestBuy? Imagine that's done after the fact as a credit back to the account
Since the activation fee is due at purchase and is on the contract, it would be with Best Buy. They're an authorized dealer. I work for ATT and even on my account I'm getting charged when usually activation fees are waived.

Avoid this if you plan to keep it long 2 years. The screen cracks open open and closed for lil more than a years. Of course depends on how many time you open and close a day.

Yes, paid in full

"Sorry we can't unlock it because your device is active on an att account
We'll cancel the order and issue a refund
Thanks"

Found the same Info.

But after reading through some old SD threads, here what I found out

1. There will be a *edit soft credit check to open a new line.

2.The Account can be closed right away, even before the first month's charges get posted.

3. Since the phone is being paid in full, an unlock request can be made right away.
Please give us instruction or information about unlocking process

Man this is a frustrating thread. After reading and rereading this thread the possible outcomes are many:

1. Buy it, unlock it, port out / cancel. Get your activation and 1st month back. Total cost is $300+tax.
2. Buy it, unlock it, port out. Stuck with the activation and 1st month. Total cost is $390+tax.
3. Buy it, wait the 60 days, port out. Stuck with activation and at least 2 months of service. Total cost is $450-$510.

Option 1 is a great deal. Option 2 is an OK deal. Option 3 is probably a pass for most people. So frustrating that we can't get a definitive answer. I really wish that I understood AT&T's policies better. Want to jump on the deal but afraid that option 3 will play out and I'm stuck with a bad deal.

You should be able to request an unlock from AT&T directly without having to wait 60 days because the phone was paid in full

Device Unlock Eligibilty here https://www.att.com/support/artic...KM1262649/

Your device:
  • Is an AT&T phone or device and isn't active on another AT&T account.
  • Was paid in full when you bought it (not on an installment plan). You don't have to wait 60 days to unlock it.
  • Has a paid-off installment plan.
  • Paid through your monthly bill: Submit your unlock request at the start of your next bill period.
  • Paid off early: The wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 days. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit your unlock request. Learn how pay off your installment plan.
  • Doesn't have a past-due account balance. Make a payment to bring your account current. It will take 24 hours for your payment to post.
  • Hasn't been reported as lost, stolen, or involved with fraud.
  • Is an AT&T PREPAID phone that has had paid service for at least six months. Check your device for an unlock app and make sure it has the most recent version of the app. Don't see the app? Submit an unlock request online.

I'm thinking option 3 is the most likely. I cancelled my order too. $500+ is a no go for me plus the hassle

Why? What struggle you encounter? It's paid off, they have 14 day cancellation policy, port out way to get it cancelled?
It is complicated. It is wired that I have both service with the old carrier(tracfone) and new carrier(ATT). But anyway, after arguing and verification, both lines are cancelled.
I have now confirmed one of the device is already unlocked. But the other one is denied
as the device is not in ATT system.

Great summary!
We need someone who will receive clarification from AT&T. For now most likely it's option 3

This deal like emotional rollercoaster

This is a very good deal if you are not clumsy with your phone or can get a good case. Might get one for my wife 🙂
