I almost bit on the Costco deal to upgrade my 2015 Gen1 iPad Pro 12.9, mainly because I wanted a better display.

Then I found out that my display is only 720P level 1366x1024. The whole 2732 x 2048 display resolution is a lie! Apple cripples the displays so they are low-res.

Same with this I presume? It's like buying a 4K TV to learn it only does 720P, that's just hardware resolution?
it uses the full resolution to give you sharpness but its scaled so the text is still big to look like "720p" your 2015 ipad pro has the same resolution as the new one. you get HDR and way brighter display on the new one

Reviewers with a good understanding of the ipad and ecosystem would tell you that there is very little reason to purchase M2 ipad over m1 ipad all specs being the same.

Follow the m1 thread here for better deal.

Rep to the op for taking the time to post.

Yes I agree actually. I ended up spending a bit more on M2 because the web browser is faster and my living depends on being fast on a web browser. Even if it's just a tiny bit I want that advantage over someone else.

  • 25% more GPU
  • 100GB/s memory bandwidth (50% faster then M1)
  • WiFi 6E
  • HDR 4 (vs. 3) for Photos
  • ProRes recording

Depending on what you're doing and how long you keep it for (I'm still using my 12.9" from 2015), a $100 isn't much for those extras (even just the first 3), as it's less the 10% more.
