Then I found out that my display is only 720P level 1366x1024. The whole 2732 x 2048 display resolution is a lie! Apple cripples the displays so they are low-res.
Same with this I presume? It's like buying a 4K TV to learn it only does 720P, that's just hardware resolution?

Depending on what you're doing and how long you keep it for (I'm still using my 12.9" from 2015), a $100 isn't much for those extras (even just the first 3), as it's less the 10% more.

It will be use case that will determine it if is a big difference. Given that the m1 with cellular is $100 cheaper it would be interesting to see what people choose and why.
M3 with OLED will be a huge upgrade. Price will be substantially higher as well.
Lots of options for all at the moment. Just need to find what fits your use case best.

Same!! 1st gen, picked up on launch day in 2015. I just picked up a 1TB 12.9" M1 WiFi + 5G from Best Buy though, finally after 7 years + 4 months I have a new one. I wouldn't call my 1st gen "smooth" though, glad to hear yours is. I'm running iOS 16.4 beta. It's amazing, >7 years of software support.

- 25% more GPU
- 100GB/s memory bandwidth (50% faster then M1)
- WiFi 6E
- HDR 4 (vs. 3) for Photos
- ProRes recording

Conversely, for +$100 with the M1 you get:
-1TB (2x the storage)
-16GB RAM (2x the RAM)
-5G capability (if that's important/useful to you)
M2 512GB $1,200
M1 1TB $1,300
I ended up going with the M1. I'd rather have 1TB, 2x the RAM, and the 5G option for the price honestly. I won't be pushing this thing (graphics), or using a pencil most likely (so "hover" not appealing or needed). I guess it depends on user needs. M2 is tempting though! I have an M1 14" MBP with 1TB + 16GB RAM. I think these two devices will serve me well for years to come.
I too have my 2015 1st gen 12.9" iPad Pro! Picked up on launch day. iOS 16.4 beta. Insane software support. Honestly I was there was more real competition for these devices, it's good for consumers. But there just isn't any I don't think. Android and Windows devices don't come close to the power and software support duration of these iPad Pro's. I could be wrong of course, maybe there are use cases where Android and/or Windows devices outdo an iPad Pro. Anyway, congrats on keeping your 1st gen iPad Pro. For me it's the device I've probably kept and used the longest.
