Reviewers with a good understanding of the ipad and ecosystem would tell you that there is very little reason to purchase M2 ipad over m1 ipad all specs being the same.

Follow the m1 thread here for better deal.

Rep to the op for taking the time to post.
Thx for repping him. Made his day. You're awesome 😎

Conversely, for +$100 with the M1 you get:
-1TB (2x the storage)
-16GB RAM (2x the RAM)
-5G capability (if that's important/useful to you)

M2 512GB $1,200
M1 1TB $1,300

I ended up going with the M1. I'd rather have 1TB, 2x the RAM, and the 5G option for the price honestly. I won't be pushing this thing (graphics), or using a pencil most likely (so "hover" not appealing or needed). I guess it depends on user needs. M2 is tempting though! I have an M1 14" MBP with 1TB + 16GB RAM. I think these two devices will serve me well for years to come.

I too have my 2015 1st gen 12.9" iPad Pro! Picked up on launch day. iOS 16.4 beta. Insane software support. Honestly I was there was more real competition for these devices, it's good for consumers. But there just isn't any I don't think. Android and Windows devices don't come close to the power and software support duration of these iPad Pro's. I could be wrong of course, maybe there are use cases where Android and/or Windows devices outdo an iPad Pro. Anyway, congrats on keeping your 1st gen iPad Pro. For me it's the device I've probably kept and used the longest.
Yeah, M1 is definitely a better buy IMO

That's temping. The killer for me is ironically the stupid software locked hover feature for my drawing. I wonder how low BF and next-gen close out prices will be and if its worth the opportunity cost of waiting.

Costco's free warranty doesn't cover tablets. See Costco site for details

Still using 2015 1st version of 12.9 inch iPad and running still smooth. Glad Apple still allow 16 iOS for all iPad Pro models!

Same!! 1st gen, picked up on launch day in 2015. I just picked up a 1TB 12.9" M1 WiFi + 5G from Best Buy though, finally after 7 years + 4 months I have a new one. I wouldn't call my 1st gen "smooth" though, glad to hear yours is. I'm running iOS 16.4 beta. It's amazing, >7 years of software support.
Same here. Getting a little sluggish / pauses when switching apps though, but once I'm in an app it seems fine. The 12.9" is a great form factor, definitely getting my value out of that device, could use a little more than the 128GB that I got it with.

Yes I agree actually. I ended up spending a bit more on M2 because the web browser is faster and my living depends on being fast on a web browser. Even if it's just a tiny bit I want that advantage over someone else.
Lol no it's not, browsing does not task the cpu, your bottleneck is elsewhere, most likely your internet connection

What can you do on iPad Pro that cannot be done on a 2 in 1 windows laptop with similar form factor ? From my reading , it seems like laptops may be more productive & capable ?

I understand if there are some negative replies , but I am not making this appl vs msft. I am just wondering for my own knowledge. Fwiw, I have beats headphones & iPhone , so I am not an apple hater.

It's how effectively the hardware and software compliment each other to save you time and avoid frustration.

Windows is a real mess for UX. User experience because there are too many different configs and manufacturers leading to a wide range of experience for a user, developer, and manufacturer.

There's no doubt apple products cost more upfront but save you money in the future.

Try 32GB LMAO. I wasn't making 7 years ago what I do now, soooo I bought the 32GB version. To be fair, for my use case 32GB was fine for about 4-5 years. Then it started to get annoying, having to make space to upgrade iOS. So instead of 512GB M2, I went nuts and got the 1TB M1. Don't feel like dealing with limited storage space again.

It's a shame you have to prove your "Apple Credit" here for fear of getting flamed by people... I understand why though, people can be so sh*tty when you criticize their favorite Trillion-Dollar corporation.

I agree with bullgates. I have a custom Windows desktop that I love, and I think I'll always have a Windows desktop at home. But for laptop? I didn't think twice before going with a MacBook Pro (14" M1). And for tablet? Again I didn't think twice before buying another iPad Pro 12.9" (my first one is 7y4m old, bought on day one!).

The way iOS and macOS integrate is great. I can send photos and files between devices with AirDrop extremely easily. My passwords and browsing data are synchronized across all three devices. I can send photos to others in the household via AirDrop. Same for photos, they're synced between all three devices.

Personally I think it's sad there isn't stronger competition when it comes to tablets. I may be ignorant here, to what Android and Windows competition looks like. iOS/macOS integration aside, I'm going to guess that iPad Pros destroy them when it comes to power/performance/battery due to the M1 and M2 CPU's. And when it comes to support?? My >7 year old 2015 iPad Pro 12.9" is running iOS 16... SEVEN years lol... Competition is good for consumers, and I wish there was more of it between iPad Pros and other devices.
