I have a current model Oasis and am itching to "upgrade" it but the scribe seems like it's built for a whole different use case. Maybe if I were back in grad school or something I could justify it, but as you point out, I don't think the scribe is gonna be good for holding in one hand for reading, especially as it has no physical buttons.

As annoying as it is for the Oasis to be the supposed flagship kindle device and yet not have a recent refresh, I guess I'll keep putting up with its micro-usb port and comparatively antiquated processor. That paperwhite *signature* has been tempting a couple of times, but, again, it's still more a gussied up midrange device than a premium one. I wonder if the Oasis is just in a peculiar class with too little demand for Amazon to do anything with.

just did the purchase.

If everything goes planed, here is the breakdown:
Paid $326+$26 tax=$352.
Should receive $75 gift card (from previous gen oasis) + $64 discount + $20 cashback from some site + $16 cashback from my amazon card = $175
Net is $177

7inch -> 10inch
8gb->64gb
no pen -> premium pen

great deal.

Fantastic find. This is cheaper than the individual 64gb premium pen version.

Darn—I wish I had seen this before I bought the 32gb non-bundle model for $5 more.

Anyone know if you get the trade-in coupon back if you cancel before it's shipped?

Trade in my paperwhite for $30 and the additional $65 off (20% off). That's equal to a $95 trade in value, not bad at all.

Sure, why not. Either one seems like a good buy.

This is an excellent deal. However, I cannot get it to apply 20% instantly. And so the big caveat is whether the bundle offer will be available for longer than a week.

They are offering me $75 for my Kindle Oasis. I accepted the offer and have to ship the device in. Usually it takes about a week for them to receive the trade-in and appraise it. The 20% discount won't apply to your account till then. If the offer is not available by the time they receive the device and appraise it, I would have traded in my current kindle for nothing. Frown

Another issue is that I'm not really sure about replacing my Kindle Oasis with the Scribe. I was holding out for the next version of the Oasis, but I'm not sure when or even if they'll release a new model. My current one still holds charge, but it's getting long in the tooth. Getting tempted by this deal, but not sure if the Scribe will make an acceptable replacement due to it's weight. Not sure how good it'll be just for reading. If I end up hating the experience I can't really get my Oasis back!

what if you set up a trade-in to get the 20% off but never send in the kindle....do you just get the 20% off instantly and get to keep your old kindle?
I have the Oasis 9th gen and it's 6.5 oz while this Scribe one is 15.5 oz. seems a bit bigger ad heavier for one hand holding.
You definitely don't get to keep the discount. You have a date by which you have to ship the trade-in. I believe they charge you for the difference if you don't. In any case, this is a moot point since I cannot get to apply the 20% instantly (I too have the 9th gen Oasis I'm trading in). I submitted the trade-in. It clearly says the following -
"Once your trade-in is complete, an Amazon.com Gift Card equal to an appraised value of your old device(s), plus a promotional discount towards any new qualifying Kindle e-reader, will be automatically applied to your account.Promotional discount is limited to one per customer."

Just to check, I added the bundle to the cart and sure enough, at checkout page, there is no 20% coupon being applied.

The only reason I have an Oasis at all is the page turn buttons. That's also why I haven't gotten the Scribe. I would definitely be happy with a lower-end cheaper model if it had buttons. The page turner crowd isn't the biggest though, sadly.

You are right. After some thought I decided not to trade in my Oasis after all. I'll just miss the page turn buttons too much. Plus, this deal basically amounts to getting the cover for free, for a 'forced' upgraded to 64GB. Unless you absolutely need the 64GB, Most people will be okay with the 16GB model (that's a lot of books).
