Also the 45% NTSC color is unacceptable for this price range

45% NTSC
i7 - 12th gen
3-cell 53.5Whr Li-Polymer Battery
4060 has a miniscul performance boost over a 3060... 4060 has less cuda core, less tensor cores, and less ray-tracing cores...

JarrodsTech comparing the two.

Also, 4060 is a worse gpu than a 3060. On games that it gets more fps
The 4060 (if it's running 90-100W or higher) is 5-15% faster than a 140W 3060... based on reviews from; Jarrod's Tech, Notebookcheck, and Hubwood.

The 4050,4060, and 4070 GPUs are voltage limited and will not boost past 100W regardless of their TGP. So this laptop is very close to being full power. It needs boost to get to 105W, standard with significant CPU is 85W.

The display is very low spec... the worst feature IMO.

This isn't a bad deal if you don't care about the display. If you do, I wouldn't get it. Wait for something better.

If you're happy now, I'd say stick with what you have. I have a Legion 5 Pro 5800H/3070 140w that I upgraded to 32GB and 3TB of storage. Runs everything well in widescreen at 3440x1440. I'd love to upgrade or build another machine but it's such a hassle to get a new machine in place and redownload games, etc. Especially with prices going up and down, if it were me, I'd wait for a better machine like a Legion 5 Pro with a good screen and proven thermals, performance, etc.

Just my $.02. Take it for what you paid for it Stick Out Tongue

For $100 more I'd probably get the Zephyrus G14: https://slickdeals.net/f/16524841-asus-rog-zephyrus-14-wqxga-120hz-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-9-16gb-ddr5-memory-amd-radeon-rx-6700s-1tb-pcie-4-0-ssd-1099-99?src=SiteSearch

Much better build quality, better screen specs, more SSD, and on-par graphics.

Why are 2023 models being released with 12th gen CPUs?

Because a 4060 is so weak it doesn't need a better CPU, it's not bottlenecked by a 12th Gen CPU. Plus it's added cost to the overall laptop to use a 13th Gen CPU.

MSI Katana gives great specs for te price, but the build quality is among the worst I've ever owned. I bought the 3060 version last year and it works for a desktop replacement but is not a laptop you can take places and use as an actual laptop. Chassis is made from such cheap plastic the hinges will snap with minimal use. Battery is awful. Fan is loud. Brick is huge etc. If you know the risks and like the specs, it can work, just don't think you're getting a proper laptop.
