scam company that either doesn't provide you with plan activation key (so you have to buy another plan at full price) or hold your number hostage to force you into buying additional services

That's right if all you are looking for free 30 days of service. Better to use privacy card and pause the card payment so you don't have to remember the clock ticking.
I doubt. But for this deal your sim card will be shipped for free.
