I was able to include all of my stock trade info (incl. Dividends) in Deluxe just fine this year.

There was no code, it just popped up. May be account specific. Attached a screenshot.

Not true. Just downloaded the 2022 Deluxe and am able to do rentals same as last year. I have 2 rental properties I have been doing with TT and HR for years and never needed more than the Deluxe version. Of course they will tell you to choose Premium if you rentals but all they do is some 'advanced' deduction finding which is really BS.

Just like you I have been using Deluxe since 2008 for my rental properties. But when I compared the versions this year, I saw they have not included the forms necessary, I bought the premium. Just don't want to take a chance

Also, I got $50 penalty last year for something I don't remember exactly.

If anyone has ONLY one or two returns to complete...I still have my original download links of the H&R Block Deluxe w/State software (Windows or MAC)...and TWO (2) uses of the Product Key avail. for Free Federal Filing of your taxes.
NOTE: H&R Block does NOT provide for free State Income tax filing of taxes unless you live in NY or you also have to option to print & mail in your State income tax forms).

I would like to Trade a $5 Amazon Gift Card, for each use of the Product Key.

I purchased this software back in Feb and only used 3 of my 5 Federal Free files.
You'll be getting a lower cost for filing and I'll be lowering my initial cost of the software.

Please reach out to me via PM if you would like to discuss.

UPDATE: All Codes Spoken For
I live in NY state, does it mean can I just buy deluxe instead of deluxe +state?

I'm curious...was there any difference between the software(s) in the amount you owed/refunded??
Nope. Well, besides Slayer, which couldn't figure out my state's deductions. CashApp have the same figures as H&R and Turbo. The only thing it was a bit wonky on was figuring out my state's use tax, since there's a "safe harbor" amount you can use in MA, depending on your income. It only asked how much my out of state or mail order purchases were, without offering the safe harbor option. I googled the safe harbor amount, then did the math to say that I bought the amount that would result in use/sales tax equal to the safe harbor amount.

Both the IRS and the MA DOR have already accepted my taxes.

Fully understand.

But for everyone else....can you explain what difference you were able to find out between Deluxe and Premium versions of this software and why Deluxe will not work for your situation? The questions about Deluxe and Premium always come up in these threads and H&R Block does not do a good service in explaining the difference between both and tries to (IMO) upsell a more expensive product when Deluxe will work.

https://www.hrblock.com/tax-softw...lsrc=aw.ds

As you tax situation gets more complicated/detailed, additional forms are often needed. This includes

Dividends and Interst from 1099-Div, B or INT
Stock Transactions.
401k/IRA Withdrawals
Rental Properties.
1031 Exchange
More than 2-3 W-2's
Child Tax Credit
Various Misc. Tax Deductions and Credits.

NY state e-filing is free. But you still need the state program to prepare the state taxes to e-file

in this bundle we are paying for the software. if this is another state, e-filing needs additional free

FYI. If you are filing taxes in more than one state, it's cheaper to get an entire new license than to buy an additional state for $39 within the program

Or, it's even cheaper to just install your downloaded program to another computer...copy over your Federal Return to the new computer, download ANOTHER state to the 2nd computer...and do it that way!

I've tried uninstalling H&R Block from one computer, removing all files, directories, and remnants of H&R Block in the registry, etc...and then re-installing it to download a 2nd state. I don't know where H&R Block hides their stuff on my computer but it knew that one state was already downloaded.

Installing it on a 2nd computer though...presented me the option to be able to download a 2nd state program. The key is though, copying over your Federal Return info to the 2nd computer...so you don't have to enter everything in again, and most states take info from the Federal return anyway...

As someone else wrote, you still need to download Deluxe + State in order to be able to download the software for New York State.

The beauty you have though...that other states don't have is that by law in NY State, companies cannot charge for e-filing your state return. That's about the only good thing I think I have ever heard about the state of New York!!! Everything else...Well, I won't go there!
-
EDIT"d out incorrect info.
-
But hey, you do get to e-file for free! So there is that!!!

I've been using Deluxe for years with my one rental property, but this is the first year they removed the Schedule E from the list of forms (see my last post). But, glad to see rentals are still possible.

Can you post again if you're able to submit your return without upgrading? Wondering if they've paywalled the Schedule E this year?

That is weird that you are not able to see it. I am able to see the rental property workflow/schedule e with a fresh return and also using my imported return from last year. You would need the schedule E to submit since that is what is transmitted to IRS. Yes I will post after submitting to let you know if they force me to upgrade then but probably won't happen till close to tax day. I can right now however also choose to print my barebones return and that also has the Schedule E with the rental info. Also note that the pdf you are referencing in your last post is actually for the Deluxe online and not the software download. Did any of you actually look at the download version for this year?
