The marketing is that it can be recharged from an EV charger, not that it is meant to recharge your EV.

As of 2023, standalone battery storage qualifies under the IRA. You don't need this to be part of a solar system anymore to qualify.

Very good deal on a good portable battery. Lots of competitors coming soon in this space though, at $0.5-0.7/Wh

Anyone using this for a tax credit is an idiot, however. And anyone who claims the home solar credit but uses it as a portable battery I hope gets audited
Any particular reason you feel like the credit wouldn't apply?

What is the wattage on the solar panel? It looks like the 400W but I don't see if it says anywhere. If that is the 400W, I'm pulling the trigger.
It is the 400W panel. See Specifications (see more if needed)

But the battery needs to be "installed" in the home. I don't see how a portable unit can be installed permanently.
Honestly installed can mean on a shelf, and supplying any power, right? At least that is my interpretation of the summary provided by the IRS and DOE. Since I'm my own tax expert, lol. Just curious if I'm missing something. Seems like there is a very low bar with very vague requirements, which makes these units eligible as long as you provide some solar power to something.

Can you use this as a UPS?

Can this take solar charge primarily, and draw 120vac power secondary?

I have a small set of panels that I would like to run a window A/C and possibly PC off of daily

If you are comfortable convincing the IRS that a portable unit sitting on a shelf is permanently installed in your home, go for it. I don't think you even need solar power to claim the credit.
Where did you see the requirement that it needs to be permanent? Honestly asking, because nothing is ever permanent that is attached to or part of a house. But, reading what I've read I could see them saying that regardless of that reality.

It is an EPS, but not a UPS.

Meaning there is a 50ms switching time.

For most of my devices, this actually works okay. Nothing reboots when power switches between battery and utility. Except the downstream UPS beeps once (never too careful).

As for solar + AC, yes it works, but you could be getting AC at maximum prices if using TOU plans. (Add a separate device / timer to schedule it, or just don't worry).

The ground is not bonded though. If you know what this means, you can probably find a simple adapter for a solution. If not, I would recommend avoiding connecting metal framed appliances.

The IRS form 5695 says this on line 7A

Qualified fuel cell property. Was qualified fuel cell property installed on, or in connection with, your main home located in the United States?

???? Lots of ways to read that.

Why? It's probably enough to run your refrigerator and Internet overnight vs having no battery backup for your solar power during an outage.
Couple of days and with some solar panels, weeks.
