This is the same machine that sold by Costco and was FP over the holidays. The original deal thread has lots of good information:

https://slickdeals.net/f/16204003-asus-14-5-oled-vivobook-intel-evo-platform-laptop-12th-gen-intel-core-i7-12700h-2880-x-1800-display-120hz-windows-11-midnight-black-715-699-99-14-99sh-costco

I bought one and it has been solid. Battery life is very bad, but I rarely use it on the go. Noise is not too bad once you use the Asus tools to turn the fans down. I upgraded the memory to 40GB by adding a single 32GB stick.

actually upgradable to 36GB ram if one puts in a 32GB stick!.

This is a pretty good price for an OLED fast laptop. Of course the battery life and noise level won't be as good. They should've used a U or P cpu instead!

Battery life seems pretty bad from reviews, compared with competitors with similar performance and screens.

I can't find anything that suggests it's compatible with a 32GB stick.

ASUS webpage says:
8GB DDR4 on board
4GB DDR4 SO-DIMM
Total system memory upgradeable to:16GB

But Crucial.com and MrMemory.co.uk (don't know if that's a reliable site) do show the SO-DIMM slot can accept a 16GB stick for 24GB total/max.

Max RAM is 40GB if you add another 32GB stick (one slot is removable) as already mentioned above.

Battery life is okay if you turn all settings to low (power mode, fan speed, refresh rate, display brightness). With these settings you're negating the advantages of having an Alder Lake cpu and OLED display.

Sharp and beautiful OLED screen and feels well-built. Integrated Iris Xe graphics is good for low-res light gaming. Can't login with the camera but it does have a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports!

Reviews seemed to be hit and miss.. and buying an open box unit is probably very risky to get one that had some level of battery/heat issue

Agreed. I looked at this this at Costco and compared it to the LG Gram 14. This screen is gorgeous. But the terrible battery life and weak sauce webcam put me off. All the reviews I've read agreed that they put the wrong CPU in this machine. Looks good on paper, not so good IRL

I have been using this laptop as my primary computer since August 2022. I use it docked mostly, but do carry it with me every day. I have upgraded the RAM to 40GB. I really like it as it is fast and can handle a large amount of programs: some times 300+ browser tabs and 30+ documents/sheets/presentation along with other things on multiple desktops (yes, these numbers are high, but I need this for my work). If you use the default settings it can get very hot and battery life is low. In low power mode the battery lasts six hours for me (with the work load scaled back). The screen is fantastic. The keyboard is great. The ports are plentiful.

As stated in their open box policy: Newegg will not send you any missing accessory, even if the accessory is required in order to properly make use of all the product's advertised functions. Does this mean that the power adapter could also be missing?

It comes with a 90W USB-C power supply. I purchased some used Dell 90W USB-C power supplies off eBay for about $15 each and they work great with this laptop. I keep the additional power supplies in different locations so that I don't need to take a power supply with me.

Question for self-hosted folks, if we upgrade the RAM and keep it plugged in at home, can this be used as a home-server I can remote into to be super-productive on my android tablet?
