I have used all of the Scotts (Color Enhanced is Lowes, Earthgro is Home Depot) as well as the Lowes referenced above and had good results with all. I got the Color Enhanced last year and the variance between bags was noticeable (i.e, pine bark vs hardwood hammered). In my experience its all a crap shoot. I have never had issues with mold in any of the varieties. All of that said, last year Lowes did the Scotts 5 for 10 the same time they did this. Home Depot will normally run their Scotts 4 for 10 around this time also.

I've worked at Lowes Twice. The $2 sale was 3-5 times a year, Spring and Fall 'Black Friday', Memorial, July 4th and Labour Days. The first sale I would tell be to not buy because it was left over sitting in the snow for several months. New batches would come in for summer sales. Now the sales almost never take place. Also 8 years ago when I worked there a single bag cost $2.26 so Lowes would lose a ton of money.

Equivalent to $27 per cubic yard of mulch. Probably cheaper than most other places.

However, as the OP acknowledges quality can vary. Some batches could even be moldy..

I've purchased this from them every other year. I always get 3 pallets and have yet to get a moldy bag as some claim.

It may be dependent on your market as I live in Chicago and they probably go through it pretty quickly here.

Never again. We put down a ton of that stuff 6 or 7 years ago and it looked amazing until after a year of our irrigation watering the flower beds twice a day. It all lost its color so fast and took forever to pick out. What a mess that was.

Oh, it's that time again!

This $2 mulch is one of the reasons I bought a Toyota Tacoma in 2021. nod

When will Home Depot's Vigoro brand follow suit?

You need to take 14 yards where I live! My neighbor did, and had a bunch of people some get some.

Nice! With all the price increases and inflation I wasn't expecting to see this deal this year, or maybe a diluted 2 for $7 or something. Glad to see mulch is recession proof! Smilie

While not requested, Ill provide experience of someone who went the other way (buying from my local yard to switching to Lowes/Home Depot). First I will absolutely agree the quality was significantly better from my local yard. My experience was their prices kept going up every year. 5+ years ago Id pay $25 a yard for double hammered brown, its now up to almost $45 a yard before delivery. For me though the bigger benefit with the bags is the ease of transporting them around. I get 15 yards for my whole property, dumping all of that on my driveway, scooping it into a wheelbarrow or a cart that my lawnmower pulls around is tiring to just scoop it back out or dump it in spread. Now I get Lowes to drop three pallets off and I can load basically 15-20 bags, drive around and place exactly where we want. The next day I go out, cut, and dump the bags. I have more precision with the bags, its definitely cleaner, and quicker.
Exactly this. I prefer to trade off the generally-positive mulch roulette for the convenience of moving/placing bags.
