I had locks similar to these on my sliding glass doors. They work good, but keep in mind you have to drill several holes in your sliding glass door frames to install these. And make sure the drill bit doesn't hit the glass, or it will shatter.

Anyway to tell how far the glass extends to the edge… noob dyier.

It's hit or miss... if you miss there's no problem, if you hit the glass shatters. Cool


But seriously folks... looking at the vid, this mounts so it's only intruding into the extreme corners of the door. Unless the sliding glass door has an unusually thin frame, it should be fine. To be extra safe, you can use a drill press (if you have one) or a collar on the bit (like this: https://www.amazon.com/Drixet-Dri...B073VS72R3) so it doesn't penetrate more than a fraction of an inch.

I'll have to look at my sliding door when I get home, but could you put one of these on the "top" of the door so you could lock the door partially open? I have a doggy door insert in the track of the sliding glass door so as it is, this isn't useful unless I could lock it in that position.

If someone want to come in through the patio door, they just need to break the glass, right? It is not like the patio door is facing the front where every passer by can see.
