every professional reviewer has this on the recommended buy list. this is hard, if not impossible to beat at this price. just note the lower warranty length of 1 year versus 3 for a new unit.

you won't find anything else with dirac and full pre-outs at anywhere near this price.
open box available with full 3 year warranty for $990 from an authorized Onkyo dealer.

There's never going to be an official company source that admits, "yeah, they're the same inside." Google "onkyo rz50 vs pioneer lx505" and read through the many forum threads; most enthusiasts recognize them as using the same platform.

I saw a comparison photo showing both the insides and the layout is the same (can't find it again). Whether there are component quality differences or whatever, I don't know if anybody has compared to that level of detail.

The back panels are the same. https://imgur.com/a/pqg9CIL The internal layout is the same. The menu system is the same except for the logo. There are slight feature differences that you can learn about if you want to read through all those forum threads.

Wow, this is a great deal! I'm glad to know that's at least a chance of replacing my rz1100 at a reasonable price of it ever dies. This seems to be the spiritual successor to it.

Update, I ordered mine on Tuesday and it arrived last night. It does have a sticker on it indicating "refurb, 1 yr warranty" so if open box is giving you the full 3yrs, that is a better deal for peace of mind. From all that I've gathered from other's experiences, I will update via usb stick when needed. We are all here to get the best value possible… for under 1k, and a highly praised room correction, it was right for me. Keep the information flowing…

Last, I'm moving from a Denon x3400h (give you idea of the last time I upgraded) because I want to go 5.2.4. Otherwise my old Denon is going strong

Glad it worked out for you! I'm sticking with my Denon x3300h because my setup is (and will stay at) 5.2.2. So glad Denon added DV/etc through firmware. The firmware-added features to my 3300 have made it future-proof for me... until 8k becomes a thing (if it ever does).

The only thing I don't love is that when doing 4k/120 or DV, I lose on-screen display. Not a huge deal though, considering changing to anything newer/better would be at least a $700 upgrade.

Don't fool yourself. in a few years all movies will come with a new atmos mega plus or something new like that and you'll end up getting a new amp. Not saying this amp isn't good, just that is not in the industry's interest for you to keep this for 15 years.
That only applies if you feel the need for things like this. With Atmos and 4k standard now (in both physical and digital media), we're at a huge plateau.

Sure, the hardware companies will keep trying to re-invent the wheel.. but it's going to be a very long time before anything new is worth moving to. My 6-year-old receiver (Denon x3300w) handles my home theater perfectly up through 4k/120... and I plan on keeping that setup for as long as possible.

Yes the majority of people I know(which is many) have bought a new receiver because of a new feature and not failures.
It's funny people point out other brands refurb while in this refurb/open box thread! 😜

Having setup and listened to these Onkyo/Pioneer several times I still prefer Denon performance.

Luckily for me If Dirac was a big feature I don't have to switch my preferred brand to get it!

Since I use my receiver as a pre/pro Denon's preamp mode & its assignable channels/amps are more a benefit for me.
I also don't lose bass management.

Gonna wait for a new 3800 for this price but may pay an extra couple hundred more for the 4800.
Tough call since the 4800 doesn't offer much more value over the 3800 as a pre/pro.
Should come down soon, you can already get the 3800 for $1399 now.

I have an the Onkyo TX-NR7100 and it works perfectly. Just one irritating issue: you can't turn off the display on the front which is annoying if you want a full blackout for a home theater.
I have the same receiver and while overall I am fairly satisfied with it, I would say that DIRAC is vastly overrated. After messing with sound optimization for days, I turned it off and get better sound. Another annoying thing with Onkyo receivers is the stupid relay clicking every time the sound format changes (i.e. when you watch a program on TV and commercial comes on, that is not encoded in DD). It is very loud and noticeable even with the receiver inside the cabinet. My old Pioneer Elite didn't have this problem.

Ok experts.....I know this question is impossible to answer but....

I watch movies at fairly high volume and some youtube/music stuff. I currently have an onkyo nr676. Basically their low end atmos receiver. I run KEF 3 way subs and a cheapish Klipsch sub.

My super general question is how much difference would I see running this receiver? I want to be satisfied and stop buying upgrades soon. This or a Monoprice sub first? Will this satisfy me long term?

Helpful info. RZ50 out of my league. Trying the NR6050 open box. I noticed the relay click here and there. I have a old ht360 and it had the dynamic eq and dynamic volume-light,med, and heavy. It's not on this receiver and it added body to vocals. Is that an Audessy thing or Onkyo ?

Not surprising people always paint Dirac as an OMG night and day experience but it varies widely from setup to setup.
Especially when people claim all you have to do is just run it(especially this lite version).

How's the reliability on Onkyo?
I see too many refurbished deal on it that make me worry. I had Denon and Yamaha in the past and both work fine beyond 10+ years

One thing i wished the 3300W had was eARC. I think i missed that by one generation.

Yeah, I got lucky because that's another "modern" feature I just don't use/need. I don't use my TV's built-in apps or tuner.

I'm just happy that it got Dolby Vision and ALLM via firmware updates.

Did they ever fix the unit overheating and dying after a year or 2? I went through 2 Onkyo units. DId not overuse, had small fan on it still would not last. Frown

Counts mean nothing. I bet they sell a lot more denon and Yamaha and the failure rate is minimal compared to onkyo, especially historically.
