Hello All, I recently just noticed my credit card apr went from 11.99 % to 16.74 % gradually over the course of a year. I contacted discover via chat to ask why, ( I obviously know why) but I wanted to see what they would say and if there was any promotions they can offer. 2 years ago I caught this promotion 0% apr for 12 months. I didn't think they would be able to do this again, but they did. this is actually pretty good in my eyes. This is something that you have to chat with them and ask for. I have the basic discover it card and have been with them since 2018 and use this as my main card. Thought it would be good to share. Thanks for reading.

people are not getting denied. what is happening is you are being offered a silly [balance transfer] promotion that is basically given to anyone; you get them in the mail all the time. irrc, you need to ask the rep to look elsewhere for this "special" promotion.

Yes the screenshots OP posted are deceiving. I just chatted with Discover about my Discover card I don't use very much and got 0% for a year for FUTURE PURCHASES. I just told them I was going to close it since I don't use it much but was looking at travel and home repairs coming up.

They applied 0% for a year for future purchases.

Bunch of people chatted and didn't have to ask for the special promotion "somewhere else" and got it. It's ymmv.

neither did i. rep knew where to look (because i asked properly). you need to go further if you get handed the infamous balance transfer or if you are unable to ask properly. but yes, i agree, just because you ask them to look elsewhere....you just maybe didn't get the offer since it's not available to everyone. not being available to you is not the same as getting denied. you don't apply for this offer and get approved or denied, either it's there for the taking or not. however, if you were to insist and get belligerent, pretty sure they'll tell you anything including you were denied and only approved for "silly balance transfer offer."

Depending on your financial situation, this offer may or may not make sense.

Assume you have $10k in hand and made $10k purchase.

$10k is not immediately paid to discover. Instead, you put it in a saving account gives you 5% interest. 5% is taxble, let's say the after tax daving is 3%. So in total your purchase earns you 4% including its base cashback rate.

There are cards provide more than 4% cashback in certain categories.

eh, is the amount saved worth the potential hit to my credit for carrying a high balance for 12 months? For someone that never carries a balance.

Mine offered with 4% fee on 12mos @ 0% interest and 0 fee on 15mos @ 5.99% interest rate. Either way, it's still a heft fee for me to do a $10K balance. Need a cc w/no fee.
