I bought a set of definitive technology speakers. 4 of the 8020's after a few years the amps started to fail. I had heard before i bought them they stand behind them, but they really don't. You can't get parts and they are pretty rude if you call. One started failing after 4 years and the rest after that.

I 'm into electronics and took it apart and fixed the ones i could. A key issue is some the transistors has no heat sink, and started to burn out which is probably why it failed. but they are made poorly.

The speakers are about 400 each on sale but they try to charge about 360 for a small amp that's the collective cost of 30 max to produce. They also usually stop carrying parts. Also taking it a part you need to be careful they have limited protection on the back of the board, and high voltage caps. It's pretty much junk.

I just don't think are good designs with built in amps doubly so with a company like this. My learning is It's better to buy a separate sub for longevity. Definite technology isn't a premium company anymore and they don't support anything they are indeed rude. It's alsoa pain to dispose of these they are big and it's a waste. I replaced it with some Klipsch which a lot of people hate but the people in my family found the klipsch sounded better they were cheaper anyway and i've had them for 10 years with no issues. its' fine if you hate klipsch many do, but i'd just get something else. I'm just brining that up because even a mass brand like klipsch sounded better in my room i got their higher end ones the 280f. they were about 300 each. I bought an independant sub. much better IMO.

It's more of an email promotion rather than a SD special link. You just need to append "&emailprice=t" to the item url.

Good deal, but Adorama's regular price is ridiculous when you can buy these directly from Definitive for $699 each and free shipping.

It's an odd color combo with black on the side
Also no matching center channel
They are piano black and look fully black with the grilles on

Best Buy is showing same MSRP as Adorama. Looks like its some sort of sale directly from Definitive. I see no indication that the Definitive website price is the normal MSRP.

So I'm no expert and I've never heard these speakers. The specs note 8 ohm impedence, 85.5 dB sensitivity and a suggested power input of 30 to 300 watts. I suspect they are being honest about that sensitivity as it is a bit low. All that being said I'd say bare minimum 100 watts but 150-200 would probably be great. Depends on your room size, listening volume, if there are other speakers involved (particularly a sub).

The link goes to $1099 - that's good. But I typed in 'definitive technology demand to find the center and it's not on sale --BUT I find these towers in the search and they're full price - not on sale. -clicked them anyway: full price. Yet the SD link goes to the sale price. How did OP find the sale price? I'd like to know so I can see if OP's search methods find the center for sale.

It is an Adorama + Slickdeals special link.
Common here with Adorama.
You must link from SD.

Center is $500 refurb elsewhere

Definitive's price is a closeout. These are on clearance.

Here is a 'review' from awhile ago for anyone interested.
