I might get this, but only because routinely make trash in to gold.

Special note: you must do this right out of box, awhile parts are still perfectly clean.

Step 1
Spray primer inside of tubes so cement does not react with metal (Explained in Step 4)
Place bottom caps hole side down and spray with rubberized paint

Leave for a day to let completely dry.

Step 2
Assemble tubes and bolts.
Remove one bolt at a time and dose it with JB Weld, reassemble.
Repeat with each bolt.
*Crank down bolts to be slightly extra tight

Spray end caps with second coat of rubberized paint.

Come back in a day to let everything dry completely.

Step 3
Use JB Weld to glue 2 caps to tubes on ONE SIDE ONLY.
Let dry for atleast 4 hours.

Step 4
Place cap sides down.
Fill tubes with cement.
Let dry

Step 5
Glue caps to other side of tubes.
Let dry

Step 6
Spray two coats of paint over whole thing (thin coats, go thin, worst that can happen is you need to do 3 coats) (let dry between).

Done

The thing will last a decade+

Now this thing is Stable from rubberized caps, and weigh of cement
Strong from cement and glue
Water will not seep in bolt holes and rust it out, will be weather proof, and ding proof.

When you do these sort of upgrade there will be no way to disassemble the product, but that's not the problem, the problem is they fall apart, rust out, awkward from lack of weight and stability.

I do this sort of thing a lot because so many dirt cheap products have good design form factor, but are cheap as hell.

If you already have these products around it will cost $15-$20 to upgrade it. If you don't, you will have to buy the JB Weld, cement, spray primer, and rubberized spray totally about 60-70 bucks, but will have it for other products.

Even if you buy a more expensive one, it will have same problems, but be even nicer after upgrading it

Bought this last year.

It's kind of a rickety piece of crap, but it did the job after I bent the bars out to clear my brakes.

If I get ambitious this spring, I'll probably just make something out of 2x4s.

Interesting. On 7/3/22, there was a "Frontpage Deal" for this same product at $25. According to CCC, this is the cheapest it has been. It seems to bounce from this $25 low price to the $50s on the high side.

It's a pretty generic design. He might've gotten something from the other generic brands that look exactly the same.

Just plan, execute the plan and walk away.

Save some big sized [amazon] card board boxes to paint on and throw away. Don't paint anywhere where the over spray will cause problems, including a cement driveway. Instead take cardboard to dirt area with 8 feet radius of anything else. Heck I've thown a flattened cardboard box on a field of weeds (floated 1.5 feet off the ground) and worked fine.

Paint or glue, then just walk away. you don't have to waste time with 20 min of self talk added to every step. If you do it right the 5 steps will total an hour of your time even though it was 5 sessions, and be so gratifying it seems like 30 min. Of course getting the stuff the first time will take 1-1.5 hours on top of that.

paint>>walk away. Glue>>walk away. Don't wait for paint to dry, don't mess with recently glued items. As a rule, if a glue or paint says it takes 4 hours, I wait a day, or 8 hours if I'm hurrrying.

I've done this with office chairs, bike seats, all kinds of stuff. ALWAYS DO THE MODS WHEN THE PRODUCT IS NEW RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX awhile the parts still completely clean.

I know how I like my bike seat set, so I just set my bike seat exactly where I wanted and encased the bolt with JB weld, and put bulbs of it in weak corners for strength.. Now it is always exactly right position and stronger than ever.

Works great for one of my infrequently used bikes that has a trailer attached and my son's bike he uses for school almost daily. All other bikes I store vertically on a DIY rack made of 2x4s.

Works poorly with e-Bikes too, way too light to hold them up. Does anyone know where one could buy commercial-grade bike stands, like the ones you see at schools, etc? That's what I want to put in the garage. This can go to recycling.

Agreed, been suffering through using this for about a year now, need something much heavier. I store mine in the garage so not worried about rust. But need something sturdier.

After spending a few minutes on Youtube it looks like you could build something functionally similar with a few 2x4s pretty easily and for cheaper. That's what I'm going to do.
