If they were the same or similar price, I would choose the 870 EVO too. But with the Samsung currently at a 30% premium, I would 100% go with the MX500.
Much faster 4TB TLC/DRAM NVME's are already dropping to around $200 and will likely go even lower. This 4TB 870 EVO needs to hit $200 or below before I even consider it.

They are totally cheaper, faster, smaller. ~$220 compare with 870 + 2.5 inch SATA Enclosure ~ $275
It's also NVME, which means it won't work in a SATA-only NAS, which is probably where a lot of people (like me) want to use these.
That said, I'll take most other tier 1 brands over Samsung, since they're having basically the same problem with the 870 that they first had (and fixed) with the 840 and 850. A company that doesn't learn from its mistakes isn't a company I trust for reliability.

Are you going to tell the rest of the story or no?
Or how the 4TB MX500 has high failure rates, several hidden variants with QLC instead of TLC, 1/4 the DRAM and firmware issues (with a laughable firmware update process) currently?
The SSD market is weird as hell because every time you think prices should reasonably come down some kind of natural disaster or shortage or act of God or something gets in the way and shoots prices back to the Moon

If you need 2.5 inch enclosure, just buy the M.2 NVME to 2.5 inch SATA Enclosure Adapter,

avoid QLC

Or might we see some dramatic drops on drive prices like this in 3-6 months/year?
Just curious if this is a hold or buy if it's more of a want rather than need currently?
