Anyone else getting lost with all the model #'s? I still have an A71 5G and not sure if this is a downgrade
The first two letters are the model. The third/last digit is the generation. So A71 is the first generation of A7 while A54 is the fourth generation of A5.

Better buying used previous gen flagship phone instead. These mid-low tier phones come with low performance chips and parts, you will have lagging issues from the beginning.
I'm a big fan of buying1-2 year old flagships but there's nothing wrong with current mid-range phones. Of course they're not top of the line but they work fine and there's really nothing wrong with them, in general.

Lol People still buying Samsungs in 2023? Thought they were obsolete
Your comment is obsolete, and nonsensical.

Yeah except with Metro you have an unusable phone for 6 months. Most people don't make phone purchases 6 months in advance. They usually need something now.
And when they do, it's a pre-order of the latest fancy flagship. "Hmm, let me spend $200 now on a mid-range phone I don't need and that I'll forget I have when I can use it in 6 months, because surely there will be no better deals on mediocre unlocked phones before then." Yeah, no.

Thinking of ditching my s7edge for this. $320, getting $130 for the s7 edge. Is this only esim?
This is a bad ass phone
Plus it's a gigantic upgrade from an s7. Camera is insane
The selfie camera on it is top notch. One of the first phones to have a 32 megspixel front selfie cam

A few months ago, I got my 256GB S22 Ultra for about $250 out of pocket when they they were offering $800 trade in for a base S21 and instant $400 discount for activating the phone. Bought an S21 for $250 from eBay, then traded it in and activated a new unlocked S22 Ultra on T-Mobile. Canceled the T-Mobile line the same day, so net out of pocket for the unlocked S22U 256gb was $250. Did this deal a few times.
Now that is a slick dealer !

This is an ok deal for those who want an unlocked phone and have one of the trade in phones that they got for free, but for those of us who got the crazy deals on the S22 series phones last year (from BestBuy or Google Fi), this is nothing to get excited about. Not many deals on the S23 series at this point, but I am sure that will change later this year.
Ive only had the s series until i got this a53 for a year now. It is pretty bad i have to restart it a lot.

Not true at all. I have the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G (2020) and it still runs very fast and snappy. The Samsung Galaxy a53 5g has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Amazon (3,417 reviews) and it also has 4.3 out of 5 star rating on best buy. It is silly to assume that everybody needs a powerful BATTERY DRAINING processor. For regular users especially users who don't do any demanding gaming, the extra cost isn't worth it. You also need to remember this phone has a 6.4" screen. The regular Samsung Galaxy S22 has a smaller 6.1" screen and small 3,700 mAh battery so one needs to get the plus model and that costs lot more. I am currently using a pixel 6a with 6.1" screen and I definitely miss the large screen. I like the 6a phone because I think it has plenty of pros but my old Samsung had its pros too. Samsung performance was solid and it definitely wasn't a con.

* I am no rush to get rid of my Pixel 6a but if I do upgrade in the future, the Samsung Galaxy a55 (later gen) would be among my top 3 choices with maybe Pixel 8a (if they increase the screen size) or Motorola phone
Which Motorola phone would you recommend in the $200 - $400 range ?

Technical question for the true experts. The A53 left my wish list due to the vulnerability in the chipset. Is this one safe? https://semiconductor.samsung.com...y-updates/ [samsung.com] I understand this vulnerability is only possible with certain features enabled. Maybe a patch is forthcoming or already released? Buying a new phone and not being able to safely use VoLTE and wifi calling doesn't make sense for my usage scenario. Any advice is appreciated.
The A53 uses the Exynos 1280 processor, the A54 uses the 1380 which isn't on those lists. Being a brand new phone however, who knows what vulnerabilities it could have?

I got $200 trade-in on the Samsung A32 that I got for free from T-Mobile a few years back. I have three of these A32s, all free, and will trade them all in for A54s
A135g is also $200 but comes out to be $250 in cart. where'd the additional $50 come from?

turn on developer mode and disable animation scaling to make everything crispy fast. for everyday regular use for most, it is pretty good.
