They work well, consistently, and for a long time. Paired with the hub, they also don't crowd your router.

Why is this one so much more expensive than something like Govee?

I had a lot of brands including Govee that I bought to save money, but eventually ditch for Hue. For me it boils down to inconsistent white balance and dimming. Between different products of Govee and others, "White" would be a different color temperature. Other issues is Dimming not being as great of a range or flickering.
Hue just works, and it's color calibrated between all of their products so mixing them in one room all the lights are identical shades of white or whatever other color I want. They also offer the best dimming performance.

In addition to what others have said these are much brighter and produce much better white colors than any other commercial lightstrip. I use these to light up my gym

I was waiting to be in the ecosystem. Would this be the good first step in buy? I have a men's cave down there and hope I could jump in. Any suggestions or thoughts?
Do I need to buy anything else or just this? Will this purchase work on its own or is this an add-on to something else?
If it's the Bluetooth version, you technically don't need anything else but a hub would be a nice addition. If it isn't (and the picture implies that it isn't), then you need the hub. That's for the base strip (the $48 one). For the extension, it only works connected to the base strip.
Edit: while the picture implies that it isn't, the description says that it is the bluetooth version. So for the extension, all you technically need is a base strip to connect it to.
