I love my Daylight backpack. It is a great pack for day hikes. I am not sure I like the new top closure. The old model has a zip, the new model seems to have a drawstring and a small flap. Why mess with perfection.

I noticed a lot of these trendier designs where they want the shape of the pack to look really streamlined. I don't understand it. I also must have a water bottle holder for a pack like this and that aesthetic doesn't allow for it

Some manufacturers, like mammut sell holder add-on. The mammut one would likely fit this but is close to cost of this pack, installed on the daisy loops. MOLLE ones may be with proper clips or diy mods. But likely not similar in color. I don't mind the modularity personally. However, fjallraven even sells padding for shoulder straps. That definitely should be standard on their packs.

a bottle with a carabiner would work but that depends if you want the bottle bouncing around.

edit: this one is designed with a "Internal reservoir sleeve" so it's for something like a Camelback bladder. personally, I hate those but they weigh less than a bottle

As someone said the biggest problem with this one is now water bottle side pockets.

No water bottle pocket but it has a pocket for a camel pack so it worked out great for me. Love this for shirt hikes and attaches to my farpoint pack.

Yes very easily. I have similar packs that are bigger for under my seat plus one.

Its a stuff pack and that's ok.

If people are going to the beach and just want to carry a towel, sunscreen and sandals then they dont need a bunch of pockets and sleeves in the way.

It's annoying to see form define function like this. At least there's hydration system integration.

I picked up a 28L Thule Aion. It has a bottle holder that fits a Nalgene that stays sleek and tucked away.

edit: just saw this was a 15L pack... I'm not sure I want my water taking up valuable internal space, though I may be biased against camelbacks and am looking for any reason to poo-poo them.

I have an Osprey Aether 70L I bought back in 2010 that I love. My day bags are 20L REI Flash bags. I wouldn't go smaller than about 20L if you might have you and a partner sharing some space. 20L is just big enough to put a water bottle or bladder, a couple crushed down down jackets, and some miscellaneous small things like chapstick, snacks, a beer, or sunscreen. I suppose the 15L is alright, but you should buy two if you are with a partner. I prefer to just have a 20L and we switch out carrying it. If you have kids that can't pack their own stuff, I'd step it up to 30-35L with more frame/padding.

I agree that it's a misunderstanding. Biomechanically the weight should obviously be as low, center, and close to the body as possible. This is what you are calling "streamlined". Adding a bottle holder to the side of this is a bad idea. These are very light crushable packs. They lack the frame or side-to-side support to want to add pounds of water off balance on the outside. A water bladder system is far more intelligent. It positions the weight centrally located as close to the back as possible which makes far more sense. Now on my 70L Aether, I've got bottle holders on both sides which makes sense, since it's not a lightweight day bag that would be totally screwed up by hanging pounds off the side. I've always got a hip belt on when wearing the 70L, and I almost never use the 20L hip strap as it is not truly a weight distributing design.

The way my wife and I utilize a 20L daypack of similar constructions is that one person carries a 3L hydration pack. It's got some small pockets that can hold things like keys or chapstick. The 20L holds jackets, sunscreen, snacks, and a couple drinks if desired.

These packs are too small and light to make adding pounds on the side a good idea. They have super little side-to-side stability. I would contend that utilizing a bladder centrally located near the body is the very essence of function, while adding the perceived benefit of a side bottle net is more form than function.

If you really badly hate the better-design of hydration packs, then you'd be better off buying a pack with a frame and weight distributing belt. These frameless 15-22L packs are not setup well for stuff hanging off the sides.

I like the idea of hydration bladders and use them when cycling, but they always taste weird. Always. That's my big hangup.
