FYI - Albacore has 3 to 10 times the Mercury than regular (light) tuna. Limit consumption.

While mercury levels in our test were higher in albacore than in light tunas, some brands had a much larger variation than others. For example, Chicken of the Sea's albacore had 10 times more mercury than its light tuna, but mercury levels in Wild Planet's albacore and skipjack tunas were very close to each other.

None of the albacore tunas in our tests had levels low enough for an adult to have three servings a week and only one, Bumble Bee Albacore, had levels that would allow two weekly servings. The rest of the albacore tunas had levels that warrant just one serving a week, and children shouldn't have albacore at all.

mercury issues are what they are, but I like this brand much better than starkist or most others out there. I agree that a can every week is a good idea because of the mercury.

The United States Food and Drug Administration recommends keeping the consumption of albacore (white) tuna to under 4 ounces per week and skipjack (light) tuna to under 12 ounces per week. These amounts should be lower for children and women who are or may become pregnant.

What other food is this poisonous and not banned? Kind of amazing really. Like I would only buy this as a good protein supplement to eat daily, at least a half can a day, any less and what is the point? Who likes plain ass tuna enough to eat it as some occasional treat lol.

Great tasting tuna. Doesn't have a bad fishy taste. It's dense and in good chunks — not a bunch of mushy bits.

My daughter, who can be a picky eater, even really likes it. Our cats do too. 🙂

In for two more.

If you're really that concerned with mercury levels, incorporate walnuts and cilantro into your diet-they're supposed to chelate it from the body. Ordered a pack since I'm low.

Thinking of getting these to add to my food storage supply. Anyone have an idea how long these last (approximately)?

Well, there's this:
"Tinned tuna is a very low source of mercury, so people would have to be eating at least three cans a day for about six months before it really became a concern,"

No, mercury can't be expelled easily by the body, the only way to remove appreciable amounts is via breast milk, which is why they tell you not to eat alot of fish if you're having a baby.

For example, up north where there are indigenous tribes that eat mainly fish, their women have breast milk that are too toxic to feed their babies.

The same is true for Dolphins, the Sea's bio-accumulation of mercury/dioxin/pcb is so high, that the majority of dolphins lose their first born calf because the milk they produce is too toxic.

The problem with mercury in particular is that it is HIGHLY neuro-toxic. they can detect a marked drop in cognitive function in eating as little as 1 can a week.
