Only if they sold popcorn and soda at this price regularly to everyone, I would actually buy it. Nowadays I just skip concession entirely.

I used to work for AMC and we'd have this deal pop up every few months. Despite the student ID requirement, we never actually checked for one. In the system it has its own SKU/Button which was like a $10 combo and the barcode brought it down to $5.

I'm not sure if it's still like this now, but we were actually encouraged to promote it to anyone since it looked better for our numbers the more coupons were used.

What if you have small kids who go to a school with no IDs? Or is this targeted to College Students only?

Pretty sure this is targeted for HS and college students with disposable income. That said, I doubt they will check for ID.

My kids have ID's, and worst case could show my grad school ID from 15 years ago.

You can get this deal year-round 24/7 at my AMC just by going up to the counter and saying "I'd like to get the $5 student pack." They give it to me even as an adult. Worth a shot for everyone I'd say.
