I had Boost before. It set up auto renewed when you bought their phone or their plan. Very difficult to cancel auto renew.

Yes. That is the regular value. But they have promos periodically. Especially in the fall when the new iPhone hit. And various other times as well. About a month ago I traded a locked XR for $130 cash plus $670 in bill credits towards a 14. Meaning out of pocket was $69 for tax on 14. $108 for xr to trade. The $5.41/ month a pay was covered by the $130 upfront cash I got. So effective cost for the 14 was $177. Works for me. Keep you eyes open for bestbuy promos. They are quite amazing. Got my 13 pro max that way for $125 total last year. And that deal didn't even involve bill credits.

For ATT promotions,
1. do these promos require an expensive unlimited plan? eg. $75/month unlimited plan for 2 years?
2. Can I port in a number from a cheap prepaid plan or does the existing plan have to be an expensive annual plan to qualify as a switcher?

Metro PCS deal is better as you can get an iPhone 11 64GB for $0 if you port in a new number and pay for one month of service. It ends up costing $60 for the service and $20 for the activation fee. So a little over $80 when you account for taxes but you have to go in person to a store.

You also don't need to pay for consecutive service and the phone unlocks after 180 days from activation.
