Like most luxury items, they aren't really worth that much if you approach it from a utilitarian standpoint. It's a watch that tells time (albeit in more than one time zone), but basically the cheapest G shock can do that way better. Oris has really good build quality and they're one of the few independent watch makers that haven't been acquired by some other group or brand. As far as independent watch makers go, Oris is considered one of the more affordable. Most people that buy mechanical watches enjoy the craftsmanship and engineering, knowing that a bunch of tiny little parts are working in unison to perform a task that requires precision.

I buy mechanical watches because I see them as a piece of practical art, instead of a utilitarian tool.

People who buy things without the expectation of impressing others will typically draw attention only from the crowd who knows. I would definitely strike up a convo about this watch with somebody before paying attention to a generic Rolex submariner that anybody and everybody wants simply because it's a status symbol.

Whether or not people wanna talk to me is another story
