Not a terrible price, but not slick. I've seen 7900XT for $780 also with TLOU promo. $150 is a chunk of change, but might be worth it over the older card.

I somewhat agree. The 6950xt really needs to drop into the $500's -at $550ish there simply wouldn't be any competition on the market for the price/performance. The 7900XT isn't a whole lot better, but does carry some significant improvements to their media encoder and also features dual encoders plus AV1 support (which makes them drastically better for streaming and recording video).

technically he is right. 6950xt is an official oc version of 6900.
And it's still much cheaper then that other more greedy company. I'd rather have an AMD card then the Tesla / BMW of graphics cards. I'm not one of those elitists.

same gpu re-released with an overclock and a higher price 2 years later...try again
6950xt has faster memory as well compared to the 6900xt. 18 Gbps compared to 16 Gbps.

My current system is intel 9700 , 980ti, 800w power. Will this system be able to handle? Per amd, 900w power is recommended - but upgrading power is too hassle for me. Also cpu might bottleneck performance? I d appreciate if anyone can recommend best bang for buck gpu nowadays. Havnt played pc games last 4 years but RE4 remake made me wanting to upgrade
You should be ok, but this card usually draws around 400w. If you want to be extra sure your psu can handle the card, get the XFX Merc 6950xt, which is also on sale, for $20 more than this. It draws around 300w normally, and never goes above 315w. I have the XFX Merc 6950xt and I use a 750w psu and have had no issues. I was also able to run RE4 remake at 4k res max settings 60 fps with that card.

I have the higher end asrock 6950xt.
It works great with my 3440x1440 monitor and am very happy with it.
I have it undervolted and it usually stays below 280 watts at full load.

If you are playing 4k I would look at the newer 7000 series or nvidia, but for anything less this will work really well.

what brand is your psu? Maybe look at a 6800/xt. That needs only 650/750w psu. Either way any of these cards are big upgrades over a 980ti

It is evga 800w gold. I would probably settle with 6800 or 6750

It's about 10% behind the 7900xt and the 7900xt is around 15-17% slower than the 7900xtx.

I can't do maths, but for 370 dollars more, I don't think the price to performance is there to justify that increase. However you'll be getting a brand new RDNA 3 card, vs this card which is built on RDNA 2, despite only being in production since May of last year. So it's still a newer card but built on old architecture.

My advice, would be wait for the 7900xtx to drop to 900 or lower and includes free game. That would be the sweet spot.
Sounds like the right plan.

you'll be fine with a 6950xt but it needs 3x8 pin plugs..the 6800xt and 6800 need 2x8 pin only..
I would go for a 6800xt in your case they're on sale around 520$ or if you have 3 8 pins you can get this card

Technically the 6950xt is slightly different. There were binned versions of the 6900xt that were known as XTX chips that had all-around better performance, lower power-draw, and better overclocking than base 6900xt chips. The 6950xt is essentially a guaranteed 6900xt XTX binned chip and does actually have more tangible differences than just being an overclocked card.

the only thing it really has is newer faster ram... thats about it / binning chips for it ?? from my understanding the chips used in the 6800 - 6900 series all had high yields which is why you normally never found 6800's as they were the most cut down

the 6950 just has faster newer ram than the 6900

There are system calclators online, that will tell you what PSU/CPU you can use. I have an i7-8700k. 6800xt/3070ti was as high as I could go without the cpu bottle necking it. I decided to just buy a used 3070ti which I found for $359, rather than rebuild my whole system. The system works fantastic, and I have absolutely no need for a faster computer and couldnt justify spending $1200 or more just to play video games with some extra fps. Hardware seems to be outpacing softwares need for more power tech. I used my 970 right up to a couple weeks ago with no issues. I dont play competitive FPS games, so 30+ FPS is fine for me.
