To be fair, I have an M1 with 8gb and have no trouble throwing a bunch of programming and dev work at it. I'm talking android emulators running while having multiple IDEs running and building...
I wanted to get this one, but after watching this I not so sure. Might go with m1 if I find good deal. Although, this is for laptop, I assume its same with mini. https://forums.macrumors.com/thre...d.2377687/
This is just such a good deal, I don't really understand how apple did it. Fully expected the m2 mac mini to start at $699 and not budge on price but out of the gates it dipped to $500.

As of February 2023, Windows holds 57.37% of the desktop OS market in the US, macOS holds 29.62% and Chrome OS holds 7.47%. Linux holds 2.55%, whereas other miscellaneous desktop operating systems hold 2.97%. Apple really wants to step up the game.

… and Microsoft is obliging by obsoleting perfectly good Windows 10 hardware with Windows 11. (Yah, security, bla, bla, bla). Windows 10 can run well on 8-10 year old hardware if it has an SSD. HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Microsoft itself (Surfaces) demanded Microsoft push new PC sales. So unlike Windows 10 that can run fine even on Windows 7 machines…
Never thought we'd dump Windows but our mobile stuff - phones and tablets - are already Apple and we have one MacBook Air M1. October 2025 (end of Win10) is coming fast and these Mac Mini M2's at $499 are looking very tempting.
Bonus 1: Loving the automatic - and 100% complete - seamless back up of all Apple devices as well as the seamless cross platform texting, internet, copy/pasting, photos, Find me, AirTags, etc…
Bonus 2: With Windows 11, Microsoft went all in with Google Android mobile integration, providing another reason for Apple mobile folks to leave Microsoft.
[EDIT:] I'm old enough to not be defensive about down flags on the anonymous Internet, but having a large number of Windows 10 machines in our home, I am sincerely interested in the specific counter arguments to my comment. Where, specifically, is the comment flawed, particularly for mainstream Internet browsing, streaming, email, etc…? Are the down flaggers gamers? I'd totally understand that but please say so.

I agree. 80% of my windows 10 devices were not eligible for the upgrade. And now I own M1 MacBook air and Mac mini.
