To be fair, I have an M1 with 8gb and have no trouble throwing a bunch of programming and dev work at it. I'm talking android emulators running while having multiple IDEs running and building...

I wanted to get this one, but after watching this I not so sure. Might go with m1 if I find good deal. Although, this is for laptop, I assume its same with mini.

I use a M1 Mac Mini 8gb as my personal home desktop and I have a M1 Max MacBook Pro with 32 gig of RAM for work.

The Pro is obviously faster but I never have ran into memory issues with the Mini even running lots of Chrome tabs and Office apps.

But that is a $3000 machine vs a $600 machine. Designed for different uses.

Those with issues about 8 gig of RAM in a $500 Mac Mini should just pony up a few hundred dollars for the 16 gig version. Does Apple charge more than a "stick" of RAM would cost ot add to a Windows machine? Of course. But the Mac overhead is lower and 8 gig is perfectly fine for most people,

As of February 2023, Windows holds 57.37% of the desktop OS market in the US, macOS holds 29.62% and Chrome OS holds 7.47%. Linux holds 2.55%, whereas other miscellaneous desktop operating systems hold 2.97%. Apple really wants to step up the game.
Wow, 57%… it's dropped that much? It was 90% at one time

This is just such a good deal, I don't really understand how apple did it. Fully expected the m2 mac mini to start at $699 and not budge on price but out of the gates it dipped to $500.
Not enough sales......DUH

While the M2 Pro chip is a significant price increase, its a monster.

4k 240hz. Must have for daily workflow and production.

They need to drop the prices on the pro version of the M2; there's a glut of the base version M2s - why would anyone buy one of these over the M2Pro?

Just 8 GB, is it 2015?
The m1/m2 chips can utilize the ssd as additional ram if needed and due to the way the ssd is connected to the cpu. I'd still probably prefer 16gb too but 8gb on an m1/m2 can handle a fairly heavy workload.

I agree. 80% of my windows 10 devices were not eligible for the upgrade. And now I own M1 MacBook mini and Mac mini.
Rather than buy a new windows machine... To each their own, just saying logic does not make since. You get all of this time.out of it, but jump because it's old? Yet you buy new apple and the world is great.

Like all applw people who go from old crappy junky cheap windows machine to apple... Like had you spent the same on windows, would you have the same experience or is the clout of the fruit just what it is?

Glad you are happy, just always boggle my mind when people give a reason that does not compute with me...

Ultimately we buy what we want. I am device agnostic, so I just all with no loyalty...

I've said this in multiple threads just hoping it helps someone. Those whimpering about 8gb miss the whole point of these machines and I would bet they have never used an M1.

I'm a tech teacher with a lab full of base M1 airs. My students run Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, and multiple web browsers without issue.
These are groundbreaking machines. If you want to edit a movie or run a business, just upgrade and quit your whining, ohh this $500 dollar computer doesn't have as much Ram as my Piece of junk PC.

Sorry…. End rant .

It's 2023, when Lenovo, HP, and Dell also sell desktops with 8 gb of RAM (and 4 gb for Lenovo).

Of course, what matters most is whether it's enough RAM for you. Unless you're more interested writing comments like the one I'm replying to than actually buying a computer.

Personally, I bought mine with 16 gb of RAM since I could (theoretically) need more than 8 gb for making music. I've had issues with the Mac mini (look up the issues with 4k screens and flickering), but not because of the RAM.

It is the same on all M2 models.. M1 used 2 nand chips for the 256gb model but M2 uses 2 chips starting at 512gb. This is why you see above - it's storage limited at 256gb
