I bought my MX plaid in august and it was around 146 pretax. Priced out the same and it's 106k! So def more than 5k off at least for the plaid.

tonkotsuHey which company is that? Lowest I could find was 1800/yr in socal
Tesla Insurance. Apparently they dont care about age, just your driving safety score from their vehicle.

A model 3 uses 25Kwh to go 100 miles in optimal conditions.
A Prius gets 56MPG, approx 1.8gallons for 100 miles.

The rate for electricity in CA is $0.26 per KWH. = $6.50 for 100 miles.
Alameda Street Supercharger is $0.56 per to charge (8am to 7pm). = $14.00
A Prius gets 56MPG. The average cost at Alameda is $5/gal = $9.00

So a Model 3 beating a Prius in cost per mile depends on how much they need to use the supercharger. In my area, I see all the Tesla chargers full when I drive by. So people must "need" it
.18/kwh in Burbank

I bet the bulk of those Supercharger people either have range anxiety or can't easily charge at home for whatever reason. Do you really think that many people do over 100 miles a day? A NEMA 14-50 will get you 30 miles an hour, which is a full overnight charge. I get that some people need it, but most people don't.

I bought a Tesla and most Tesla buyers don't tell the truth about EVs. YouTubers say only good things about them and they don't tell the truth.EVs are really fun to drive and faster than any other vehicle I drove. Technology is good too. But, 1. Phantom drain 1-5% battery drain per day just like any smartphone. You don't lose gas when an ice vehicle is parked. This is really bad when you forget to charge and you park your car at the airport or family or friend's home, where every mile counts. If you use sentry mode, you can lose 10+% per day. 2. Glass top really gets hot and you need to have the AC running while the EV is parked, which uses the battery a lot. 3. In the winter, the battery loses the range a lot. 4. You will have the charger connected all the time because of 1 2 and 3. Once you buy an EV, you will know. So, is it really saving money when it's plugged in all the time? And super charger is expensive.. same price as gasoline. 5. When you travel with an EV, expect to add at least 1 hr time to 3-4 hr trip for charging and getting to the charger. If you really want an EV, buy also an ICE vehicle.
I think most of these issues are manageable for most people but my wife has a Volt Hybrid and I have to say, it has some quirks, but if it could do 80 miles battery, it would be perfect. We put in three tanks of gas a year max but know that it's there if needed.

Off topic a bit, but a couple questions:

When I start driving, will the browser mirroring the phone shut off? Specifically I would want Waze up and running (mirroring phone to Tesla screen) while I'm driving and be able to see the map/screen while driving. Tesla navigation is nice, but I prefer Waze because it has highway speed trap alerts.

Do you need to have Tether/Hotspot ability on your iPhone? Wanted to know because I don't have that, and it would cost about 10-20 bucks a month on my business mobile plan to have AT&T turn that feature on for my rate plan.

Thanks!
It works while driving, that's why it's so cool. Yes, Waze would work. But you do need tether/hotspot on your phone. It basically sets up a web server on your phone that the browser connects to via your phone's hotspot. It's a touch laggy, but actually very usable. It's not perfect, but gets the job done.

Tesla is struggling to compete, as they're not the only electric on the market anymore They'll continue to lower their prices in the coming years. Based on the build quality of those things, they need to slash another $25k from them.

Volts are a really sweet middle ground option for that reason IMO. Would be awesome if there were more options in the battery primary with gas backup category out there. I was originally considering a Volt before they stopped making them when I got my MYP (to pair with my good ol' Honda Odyssey).

Tesla nickels and dimes you. You have to pay for mobile charger, charger installation, non-refundable order fee, extra delivery fee, etc. It adds up. Chevy doesn't make you pay for any of that.
They installed your charger for FREE???

My guess would be that they are people who cant charge at home overnight (Apartment/Condos, renters), or they drive for Uber. In that case, they would be better off with a Hybrid Toyota Prius/Camry/Rav4 (if cost per mile was their priority).

Man the Tesla haters are out in force on the Tesla slickdeals thread, eh?!

Anyway, thanks anhdongtx. I will have to check out the Tesla insurance to see if they cover drivers in my area. My issue has been that I moved from the Midwest to Florida a few years ago and there are MANY insurance carriers that won't even write policies for the state simply due to the fact that there are so many hurricanes. I live in the Northeastern part of the state and it's not nearly as much of a concern but because it's still Florida we get less options and higher rates on the carriers that do write policies here.

My rates pretty much doubled when I moved down here and are now at just shy of $1800/yr for 2 drivers (over 35) with good record of no tickets or accidents. I was told because of it being a "performance" car it was rated as a sports car which also contributed to the higher premiums.
