I bought a model y inJan, do I have to have at least 7500 on tax day next year to get the full credit? Confused if I should reduce withholding. I do pay enough taxes to pay more than 7500 for the whole year
Reducing withholding has nothing to do with it. You either "prepay" your fed taxes by withholding, or you pay it all at the time of tax filing. Changing withholding does not change the amount of tax you owe each year.

Agreed that makes more sense, was hearing recommendations to withhold more from some tax consultants, so was checking

Except you cannot even get a Bolt if you tried. A dealer told me this week that Chevy is going to stop making them and they are no longer taking orders since they cannot guarantee fulfilling the ones they already have
That's coz the Equinox might be close to the current Bolt price when it debuts

Just think how much the resale value has dropped for a model s plaid for people who bought last year.... Would you want to risk it ?
I'm not talking about it as an investment. At some point you want to sell it and get something else. And at the current rate, that model S plaid might a crap load cheaper a year from now.

Have you seen the residual value drop of a BMW or Mercedes? How are ANY of the Tesla price drops any different? What about dealership markup at any standard dealership, which inevitably will be phased out when the market rebalances and will be unrecoverable? Tesla gets no credit for not having this. The 2021 model S plaid is still $85-90k anywhere I look, that's actually pretty solid compared to other vehicles.

Tesla nickels and dimes you. You have to pay for mobile charger, charger installation, non-refundable order fee, extra delivery fee, etc. It adds up. Chevy doesn't make you pay for any of that.
This may win the darwin award for most uninformed car purchaser. Lets go line by line.
1. You have to pay for a mobile charger.
1.1. You are correct. Tesla, using data showed its not a commonly used item. Instead of giving it away, and the previous price was $450. They reduced the cost to $250 and made it an option. I use the mobile charger a few times a year... Id buy it just to he safe, but its not beeded for all.
2. Non refundable order fee.
2.1 Do u want to buy the car or just add delays for people who actually want a car? Not to many car companies offer cars online, for a fixed price, no haggle, no trips to multiple dealerships etc...
3. Extra delivery fee.
3.1 What are you talking about? Every car manufacturer has a delivery fee, if u want to wait for your exact build to show up on a dealer lot there is no fee. Tesla doesnt offer 27 trim levels, your desired car, if available somewhere else, can be transported to you for a fee for immediate delivery, and you can choose to accept it. Do auto transport companies not charge for such services?
4. Chevy doesnt make you pay for any of that?
4.1 Do you think chevy is giving away the costs of mobile chargers, home chargers, delivery of a vehicle from Spokane, WA to Miami, FL? Of course not....

They may charge everyone for a mobile charger, whether you need it or not, a home charger wether you can install it or not, and they certainly charge a destination fee.

Not sure there is any comparison to any currently available tesla and any available chevy anyway... but ur misguided if you think you are not being charged for any item or service being delivered.

Tesla offers a very transparent puchashing cost, take it or leave it. You dont need to drive around town and see which dealer gives more or less. A mobile charger is $250, its not $200 or $500 from place to place.

Fifth price cut this year.
No, it's not.

For 3/Y:

Actual across the line price cuts: Jan 12 and April 6. That's 2

Actual price INCREASES on all changed prices: Jan 23 and Feb 10.

Price went UP $500 for some trims, and DOWN $500 for others: Feb 3 and Feb 12.

You can see pricing with dates of changes here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadshe...1843681657

The NET result between Jan 12 and today for 3 and Y is:

LR-Y is…the SAME price now as then. The P-Y is…the SAME price now as then… the P-3 is…$1000 cheaper now than then…the SR-3 is $2000 cheaper now than then

Call any 3 BMW dealers on the same day about the same car and you'll probably find that much price vairance- let alone over several months!

The difference is Tesla has no useless middle-men dealers obfuscating prices, so the day to day changes are more easily tracked and more obvious.

Any way around AGI limitations of tax rebate for married couple?
Leasing.

If you lease your income is irrelevant and the leasing company should qualify for the full credit and can pass that along to you in the least terms.

Yes we are looking at all the other options with mache leading the way and the equivalent mach-e is just way too expensive to the model Y LR. Its almost like we need to tell the dealer, i can just order a tesla online, i dont want to have to deal with your markups or BS dealership talk in addition to being like 8K more. Just hoping this reduction will drive more of the EV SUVs to further price cuts that will be comparable to the tesla pricing. Throw in the full tax credits, going tesla is almost a no brainer unless someone a hater.

Mach E is having its tax credit reduced by $3750 across all trims on the 18th, and Ford admits they already lose $ on every one they sell, they can't really afford to cut prices that'd just increase the loss.

If it's anything like any other new EV they've "launched" in the last year or two it won't matter since they won't actually be mass producing them.

Hummer EV began production end of 2021. They sold TWO of them in Q1 2023.

Lyriq began production Q1 2022. They sold less than 1000 of them in Q1 2023.

I would strongly suggest you avoid any tax consultant who is that poorly informed on how taxes work Smilie

I bought a Nissan Leaf last year and love it as a daily commuter.

Why would you own a 45k vehicle (including tax and charges) for driving 20 miles everyday?

The Leaf is the ideal vehicle for daily commute and city driving. Best value for money, ultra low maintenance, low cost upfront, lower insurance, no gas fill up time and very fun to drive.

People buying over priced Tesla as their first EV should consider other options and check out Reddit forums before buying. I never knew that Nissan Leaf had so much love and loyalty. Also, wait for another 2 years and the market will be flooded with EV vehicles in all price ranges from many manufacturers. Right time to buy an EV is 2 years from now.

Former Leaf owner, current Bolt owner and I agree. At the current pricing for M3 and MY it is getting into the reasonable range, but so much more value in the Bolt. I sold my 2012 Leaf with about 65k miles on it in mid 2021, still had decent battery health (maybe lost 15-20%) and was happy with it. I would be very hesitant to pay too much on an EV right now, given what's coming in the pipeline.

Are they going to start weekly price cuts?

Used Tesla prices fell 31% last month alone.

I get that EVs are the future, but the idiot that bought the company is starting to have the same effect on Tesla's value as he had on Twitter.

You should write him a letter. You sound like you can run a company really well.

Whoever wants to get Tesla, first test drive, sit on the passenger seat, sit on the back seat and have it drive in bumpy roads. It's a great fast car but if you are expecting luxury quality it's not for you. In Model Y, you can hear the road noise and everything shakes if you are concrete road. So I wouldn't jump in it before trying and testing everything.

You'll pay the lower price. My brother will pick up a model Y LR AWD next Friday 4/14 at the new price of $52,990. It was at $54,990 at time of order. SF Bay Area, CA

I own a bolt EV. Tried the bolt EUV and can't really tell the difference in cabin space. Bolt is very well designed car, has large driver and passenger side windows. Provides a good view when driving. It has all the necessary features to make it a fun to drive car. Bolt is not as fast or powerful as Tesla. But do look at bolt before u decide. Also Chevy installs 240V plug points in your garage, up to 25 feet away from junction box. also the dealership offered me choice to choose between EVGO credits or free charger installation. Also Chevy has certain promo programs for selected individuals, for example if you are a school teacher u get a promo for $500off. there are other attractive programs as well.

Are you required to cause a 9 car pile up cause the self driving feature stopped short on the highway? Asking for a friend!

My god the price is just cratering on these. I would be worried about it dropping more and resale values sinking.

These cars are still too expensive given their spartan interiors and range/local driving limitations. Maybe if they came up with a small car option at a lower price point with 250 miles range, folks who want a local driver would jump on it and spur sales.
