Don't compare MY vs Lexus please. It is too much nonsense
Well, first, the average new car in the US is ~50k now.
Second- >95% of Teslas cars aren't 50k anymore thanks to the credits. In fact the cheapest are about 35k right now, and most of the rest in the low 40s.
Teslas should begin production in late 2024... but there's quite a few you can get right now in that price class... (they will be inferior in specs, performance, charging network, etc of course)
Tesla raised prices, a lot, throughout the pandemic. They're simply unwinding those raises for the most part.
In most cases the prices NOW (ex credits) are about the same as they were in mid-2019 after these last price cuts...some slightly higher, some slightly lower.
Pricing as high as you can is the basis of profit. Doesn't mean its right or not overpriced. e.g. price of insullin and basic life saving drugs.
average price is meaningless comparing cars in all sectors. Average people do not have 40k or 50k to spend on new cars. Tesla's have insane profit margins which is all the proof you need to definitively say they are overpriced. When a product has 5x profit margin in a sector thats the definition of overpriced.
Demand and sales have nothing to do with it. And yes, a lot of things today are overpriced, like grocery, eggs etc. Prices were raised to gouge consumers on the pretext of pandemic (actual cost wasn't nearly that high) and have not come down. Profit margins of all these companies are way up.
Tesla is no different, they are worse. Does anyone actually think decontenting a car and removing sensors and many other things actually costs more? They charged more for less. They can now afford to lower them without affecting their bottom line, and thus hurt competitors. Thats not something to admire.
If Ioniq etc were as widely available and had the same charger network, a lot less people would buy Tesla. The build quality, features etc are no comparison.
Prius Prime shows you can build a good looking cheap car. Imagine if Nolt had new Prime looks, they got rid of that hideous center console and simplified it, and tuned it for performance. and it had the same charger network. Thats a lot of maybes but its happening in many other countries. US is a clusterfark that is anti consumer thats why we dont have a common charging standard or common standard for anything.
Sorry I take that back, Honda has 10x better build quality, materials and service.
Never mind Lexus or any actual luxury make.
A Fit will probably have less squeaks and panel gaps after 2 years than a new Tesla (oh wait, they are all 'per spec')
if only you willing to pay extra $2,000 ~ $5,000 for "market adjustment" from MSRP. I end up go with Tesla. Chevy Dealers are rude and nonsense attitude! They rip off the customers now!!

Say it with me...manufacturing costs.
it is amazing that we have all these folks that have never driven a Tesla, or owned one, and have not even researched what the company is doing yet they are self appointed expert.

Also, why can't ppl just let ppl enjoy things 🥲 If u don't like Tesla/EV, then just save ur energy and move on w/ ur life
It's understandable that its models all have looked nearly identical for many years but you can think of it as like the "Apple" approach with their iphone lineups. Minor improvements each year with no drastic changes to looks. It's either you like it or you don't. The software updates, like apple are constantly being improved. It is a premium car in that aspect. They followed a successful brand that has allowed Tesla to also grow exponentially.
Tesla has also made a very safe approach to their car designs keeping them minimal, functional, maximally efficient in regards to aerodynamics, extremely high scores in terms of safety ratings, and can almost think of it as a blank canvas that allows them to add/remove physical features later on. It's definitely something new and minimal, which is what many people prefer nowadays.
Did I mention that all their cars are insanely fast? Other similarly priced competitors just aren't there yet. For me, that alone is held at a high value.
There are many options out there in regards to new EV competition selections such as Rivian, Polestar, Lucid, even legacy automakers, but the convenience of superchargers' integration with Teslas is still superior, especially for many people who own or plan to own an EV living in apartments.
In regards to price fluctuations, as I am not a professional economist, but from what I see, they just like to follow the old idea of supply and demand. They have launched new giga factories worldwide that have ramped up production, therefore more supply, but also most people finance these cars, and since interest rates have skyrocketed, naturally Tesla lowers price tags in response to it, to sort of balance it out and lure more people to buy them. There may be more to it, but as far as I'm concerned, they're able to play around with prices as they please since they sell regardless and there's no toe to toe competition as of right now to promote price wars. I do hope there will be more competent brands who can come together to compete against Tesla as that will definitely benefit consumers.
Got any reference of this? I've only seen Tesla spontaneously combust but it can easily happen to ant battery car.
Cut in half 4/18. U can get one now
I understand your concern, and I agree that not all change is good. In fact I am aware of the battery component mines that these EV manufacturers rely on to get supply and its quite depressing. Endless wars for resources.. etc. People thrive, people suffer. Maybe I am brainwashed and blind sided, but how I see it is that only way is forward, especially with the future we're headed with technology. One day, we'll go extinct, only for sentient AI to carry on our legacy.

On what facts do you base this? Do you own a Tesla? Have you researched the engineering? Can't compare apples and oranges. As days go by, Tesla only gets better and better and will always lead in EV's.
