Panasonic was tops 20+ years ago, from Japan I would say Zojurushi, from Korea it would be Cuckoo

Brand is well known for their quality rice cookers in Asia. Not sure of this model, but some models can get very expensive.

Interesting choice of animal to name your brand after, the birds known to lay their eggs in other birds' nests. The origin of the term cuckold, lol.

I don't get it.. with the InstaPot craze a few years ago, everyone and their mother got one.. so why not just a cheap InstaPot? They often sell under $50 and can do a lot more than just rice

If you are happy with cheap InstaPot, great for you. Many can tell the different and prefer cuckoo, tiger, etc. cookers.

Always wondered what the difference between a cheap rice cooker and expensive one is. I have a cheap Aroma and the rice seems fine to me. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing?
If you don't know what you are missing, then you don't miss anything and be happy with cheap rice cooker. ;-)

How does this compare to the CUCKOO CR-0655F (https://www.walmart.com/ip/CUCKOO...thena=true) that's a Serious Eats pick...

I used the Tiger brand rice cooker growing up (daily usage), it was awesome and lasted like a decade+, perfect rice all the time.

Then I used an Aroma for a few years when I moved out--it does its job, but by the 2nd year, the rice burns a little at the bottom and cooking is not as even in the rice grains.

In general, the Asian branded rice cookers are better. If you eat rice on the daily, good to invest in one since we know what's up. Smilie

Get a South Korean made Cuckoo if you're gonna buy Cuckoo (just like you'll want the Japanese made Zojirushi or Tiger). With that being said, we love our Cuckoo (CR-0632F) and it hasn't made a bad batch of rice yet.

This one is much more reasonably priced compared to those insanely priced Z-brand rice cookers.

I don't care how good the Z-brand ones are. I just don't think a rice cooker should cost 2x the price of microwave oven with much more advanced technology. A rice cooker only needs to know when to start (timer) and when to shut off. Hey, burnt rice tastes good too.

I have so many rice cookers. I don't like Zojirushi. Bought a expensive induction pressure cooking one from this brand. It still took almost one hour to cook white rice. I don't know what's the purpose for the high pressure. The non sticky pot already had some peeling offs when I bought it. Zojirushi has pretty unstable non sticky coating for their inner pots. So I eventually returned it. I have 2 Tigers. One regular and one induction. They both work well and the nine sticky pots have no issues after years of use. The finally I bought a Cuckoo induction high pressure rice cooker. I have to say, it only takes 29 minutes to make the most delicious white rice compares with my other two Tigers. Now it's my everyday rice cooker, the nine sticky pot holds very well after two years is almost every day use. If you don't want buy too expensive ones, this Cuckoo for the price is not a bad choice.

I once thought this way and had some high end zojurushi cookers, then realized any brand induction cooler is superior to any brand. The tech matters more than the brand. That being said, I got a tiger (japan) and it's been amazing and since the non stick coating is starting to have issues it's about time to get a new one but my suggestion to all is get induction or go home
While I don't disagree with you that induction is better, induction rice cookers are typically 200-300. This is $50 and does a fairly good job.

12 cups (cooked) rice capacity. How does it translate to the standard "uncooked" that all other rice cookers specify? I'm about to buy it but am worried about this model being too big (or small) for its intended use
Even at 6 cups that is a lot of rice. Unless you have a large family you probably don't need anything over 5
