I am sure you never used Apple TV before commenting this.
PS: I use Google TV myself.

OP, you should include "Apple TV 4K 128GB (3rd generation) - Wi-Fi + Ethernet" in the title to make the post more useful.

For years, I have been getting Roku Ultras because it was the only streaming device that supported the Xfinity Stream app, so I have a lot of experience with Roku Ultras. Unfortunately, I have no choice since Comcast is the only provider in my area, so I'm stuck with Xfinity. Recently, the Apple TV started supporting the Xfinity app and coincidentally, the 64GB 2nd-gen Apple TV 4Ks went on clearance at Walmart for $71 each and I was able to buy 2.

The performance and polish of the Apple TV is like night and day compared to the Roku Ultra. Also, no ads in the Apple TV.

I also have a newer Samsung TV and its built-in apps are not as good compared to the Apple TV because TV manufacturers purposely use weaker processors which sometimes cause issues with streaming. The Apple TV has yet to struggle with any of the streaming apps that I've used.

The Apple TV is just the best streaming device out there in terms of performance and ease of use.

Anyone here completely out of the apple ecosystem other than the streaming player? I really really don't like my Roku 4k stick, but it's way better than my aging Samsung 4k TV smart functions which are buggy and laggy these days.

Curious if anyone basically doesn't use apple other than this can comment on the experience

I'm a fire cube user, myself. Using ethernet was my main reason for going there and experience with laggy, slow fire sticks.

Any reason to go to this for someone like me? I'm an android user but my wife and son have apples...

Is it possible to cast to one of these from an Android phone? I do that quite frequently with YouTube. Looking to replace a FireStick 4k Max in the bedroom because I'm tired of the interface. I don't really have any complaints about my Shield Pro in the living room though.

What thread support can be used for ?
Th Shield was a very good device 3 or 4 years ago. Now it's a bit dated. NVIDIA needs to release a new model.

Is there anything (beside Apple's walled garden features)which justifies the $50 bump in price over an on sale Roku Ultra? I don't mean to troll here, I just can't see anything which benefits me unless I'm all in on the Apple ecosystem (which I am not). Is there something about Roku which is measurably worse?

My house is wired for gigabit, I would be using the box for a bunch of regular streaming services and local/remote streaming in Plex. Nothing fancy, I just want something responsive, stable, and reliable.

The only thing I can think of would be using the Apple TV to stream Steam games from my PC using Moonlight or the SteamLink app. I'm pretty sure Roku doesn't support game controllers, so I suppose that would be an advantage to Apple. But I have a SteamLink box now and don't use it much as it is.
If you are a heavy Youtube user and have grown tired of the slap fighting between Roku and Youtube (and other networks), then going Apple TV is a major plus.

Edit: Also weirdly the Youtube app on Roku has always been wonky after updates. Like they cant make up their minds if scrubbing requires a push and hold method or continuous button presses. Very infuriating,

Ads alone should be a good choice to switch as well.

not really, unless you need the ethernet connection (which most people dont use) than you are better off saving the $20 bucks and getting the other one.
Most people don't use the Ethernet connection? Lol ok. Expert analysis.

$20 less for the wifi only one for those who dont need hardwire or thread/matter support. https://www.costco.com/apple-tv-4...94162.html
Can you update the post to include this? $99 for the 64gb wifi AppleTV is great! (I just bought for $125 from Costco last week so I'm excited to get $25 back).

Dumped my Roku Ultra for this a few years back and never looked back. Almost all apps are better and faster on it, especially The YouTube TV app.
