ball up some paper towels and put them behind a few of the firebox pieces to keep them somewhat upright. once you get a few in position, it's pretty easy to get the ring installed. then you can get the paper towels out (with a screwdriver, etc) or let them burn off...

Might be worth the $100 to have it for summer. The bargain seems to come a week or 2 after BF sales

I picked up the KJ classic from the last crazy Walmart deal and love the thing. Smoked a brisket on it and have done picanha (got the Joetisserie from Dvor.com) and a bunch of steaks. I screwed up a couple corned beef briskets but those were more experimental. I have another upcoming brisket cook for friends soon. The Jr seems easier to deal with for smaller cooks where you still want grilled food. My wife will kill me if I get another one though. I'd probably get the Big Joe before I get the Jr. though - I'd rather die over that than the Jr. LOL

hahah go big or home! i got hooked after borrowing my friend's jr and bought a vision kamado from sams for 250 and slowly expanded my collection. i like jr for smaller cooks. the classic is a great all around piece. jr is nice if you can swing it. sometimes i use it for sides while meat is on the classic. i try to avoid using my oven during summers so having the multiple kjs have been awesome.

Nice! Our yard is perpetually 'under construction' with various projects and there's just a ton of crap stored on the side of the house. I'd be in for multiple ear-fulls from my wife if I got one more grill lol.... at least I got rid of the Masterbilt electric smoker I had from a while ago (I told her I was gonna sell that and a Stok tower grill I got a while ago - still haven't sold the Stok).

You don't know how close I was to pulling the trigger on the Big Joe when it was $799 on Amazon... I'm kind of regretting not doing it Frown

i just moved and concrete isn't getting done for another month so my grill collection is sitting in the garage. it smells like bbq every time i open the garage door. i pulled the trigger on the BJ3 last spring and confession....i still haven't fired it up. i can't get the firebox pieces to sit together enough to get the ring on and gave up lol. i think i might need kj to send me a new piece or i need to shave the sides of one. i don't feel that bad it hasn't been used cause ya know, it was on sale and inflation.

Check out Smoking Dad BBQ on YT… he shows several cooks this can do to comfortably feed a family of 4 (some of these will make far more than 4 servings): spatchcock whole chicken, pork butt, half a brisket or cooking a tri-tip brisket style, 2 racks of pork ribs, you can get a 2nd tier grill grate and do like 4-5 lbs of wings, 4-6 burger patties. What's even better is you can find people who have setup tutorials for Neapolitan style pizza since you can get this thing screaming above 900°F (a few iron couplers on top of the heat deflector at the top position to create an air gap and a pizza stone on top of them)… this thing is ultra versatile and you burn less fuel than a large kamado, temps are more stable and adjust more quickly than a larger kamado. Obviously it can't do everything a larger kamado can do but at a fraction of the cost it's a great entry kamado or even ideal for small families if you don't entertain large crowds.

I bought this at $299 and it was money well spent, love it. In 20 minutes I can have it up to 600 degrees and sear steaks. I use it at least 3 times a week, sometimes it doesn't make sense to fire up the classic joe.
