How do we upgrade to an m.2?
How do we upgrade to an m.2?
Changing it isn't super-easy because the coin battery is under a back-mounted VGA port card that has to be removed first.
I contacted Dell Refurbished and they gave me back $40 per PC for my time to fix them myself. Very nice of them, but one has to wonder how good their refurbishment QC is.

Ignore the naysayers -- good brand, decent performance and 1TB size for $40.
You aren't wrong for a sweet 1080p gaming rig.
My assumption is the hate for 1080p gaming?
I think the best plan of attack (besides not buying a prebuilt proprietary PC) would be to buy a power supply to motherboard adapter. That way you could use any power supply.

My only concern would be # of drives that can be mounted safely and powered safely.
There are plenty of SSD deals now for close to that price. Manufacturers are having a fire sale on SSD's now.
For each user to do it, they'd have to find the service manual online. Read up on it. Get the tools out to pry out the battery and remove any components in the way (video port, etc.). Buy some CR2032s if they don't already have one on-hand. Hope that they didn't make any mistakes in the process. < Repeat thousands of times for thousands of refurb buyers. >
In the 7060 thread, there was a person stating something like all the 7060s they had at their work were garbage because of bios issues. I suspect that they were also battery related. With the dead battery, these Micro Optiplexes spit out bios error screens when booting up because of default bios settings returning and therefore mismatched settings.
For a 25c extra cost, and an easy change at Dell Refurb since they're opening the systems anyway, Dell Refurb sure is pretty dumb to not replace the batteries. Some upper manager there needs to be fired. With all the additional support calls, added returns because of it, etc., they're losing a bunch of money over it. One would think that repeated issues like this would be caught in any corporate continuous improvement quality procedures. Not at Dell Refurb though.
Maybe the Dell Refurb process is actually done by a contracted out company, and replacing the CR2032s wasn't part of any negotiated contract. It's so easily noticable in the final testing process. Just turn on the system. If greeted with a Bios error Dell, it's NOT ready for shipment! Instead, Dell Refurb says "let the next owner deal with it". Strange. They accept shipping out a unit that's actually not functional, given the default bios settings won't match the components, and the date/time might be incorrect too until reset by the network later in the bootup process.
