For those looking for a more powerful machine, Dell Refurbished restocks (lists) machines at 3pm EST. I took advantage of this deal last month and the machine I got is fantastic! It's faster than my new XPS laptop.

DELL has FedEx do all of refurbishing. In 2005, Dell partnered with Genco which was acquired by FedEx to help with its supply chain.
You likely just confirmed that the CR2032 probably isn't part of the contract. There are so many reports of faulty batteries upon delivery, so its no accident. Putting it in their site also suggests it's not part of the refurb process.

Don't know why you are being downvoted.

You aren't wrong for a sweet 1080p gaming rig.

My assumption is the hate for 1080p gaming?
All I can say is SD sure has changed a lot since I joined originally in 2007, and not for the better. You used to be able to say stuff on here but not anymore. In this thread, people are praising some dude for knocking my most helpful post for a Legends Ultimate Pinball PC or similar while TD me. Ridiculous!!!

Strange that they don't replace the CR2032 which can be bought in bulk for about 25c. I had to replace mine too. They even warn about it on their site that they likely need replacement. Dah, after many years, yah Dell they need replacing. Just do it in your refurb process. Idiots.

For each user to do it, they'd have to find the service manual online. Read up on it. Get the tools out to pry out the battery and remove any components in the way (video port, etc.). Buy some CR2032s if they don't already have one on-hand. Hope that they didn't make any mistakes in the process. < Repeat thousands of times for thousands of refurb buyers. >

In the 7060 thread, there was a person stating something like all the 7060s they had at their work were garbage because of bios issues. I suspect that they were also battery related. With the dead battery, these Micro Optiplexes spit out bios error screens when booting up because of default bios settings returning and therefore mismatched settings.

For a 25c extra cost, and an easy change at Dell Refurb since they're opening the systems anyway, Dell Refurb sure is pretty dumb to not replace the batteries. Some upper manager there needs to be fired. With all the additional support calls, added returns because of it, etc., they're losing a bunch of money over it. One would think that repeated issues like this would be caught in any corporate continuous improvement quality procedures. Not at Dell Refurb though.

Maybe the Dell Refurb process is actually done by a contracted out company, and replacing the CR2032s wasn't part of any negotiated contract. It's so easily noticable in the final testing process. Just turn on the system. If greeted with a Bios error Dell, it's NOT ready for shipment! Instead, Dell Refurb says "let the next owner deal with it". Strange. They accept shipping out a unit that's actually not functional, given the default bios settings won't match the components, and the date/time might be incorrect too until reset by the network later in the bootup process.
Those 25 cent batteries turned into $40 batteries for Dell. I'm happy I got $40 each ($160 total) back on my CC today. But, yeah, people need to be aware that Dell isn't checking the batteries on these older systems and you may wind up with boot-up errors that don't resolve until you change that battery.

Thanks for response! It's not gonna be anything crazy. I'm only going with 2 HDD and 1 SSD for os. I was gonna use an old 2009 PC but it max 4gb of ram. This dell seem to fit the bill. At least to hold me off for next couple of years and then I can recycle this dell to the kids while I'll invest in a Synology Nas.
Tried to move all PC to VM on Synology NAS but its CPU is too weak to handle any VM.

How can you tell if the SSD in the Micro are SATA or NVMe?

From what I saw on Dells website, the specs say MTs have 1 internal 3.5" HD Bay, 2 internal 2 .5" HD Bays, 1 internal slim Optical Drive Bay, 1 internal 5.25" bay (optional, the 3.5 bay converts into 5.25). At least from the photos I saw online I see at least 4 SATA connectors, although there are some sites saying it has 5. I will assume it comes with at least 4 SATA power connectors from the Power Supply. Based on the pictures it looks like it is going to be a challenge to fit more than one 3.5 HD in there. Looks like a perfect fit if you plan to use SSD for the NAS. Or if you are willing to risk it and drill holes on the chasi to mount extra 3.5HDs. It looks like maybe under the Power Supply there might be space for extra 3.5HDs but I can't really tell and for sure it is going to get super hot in that area.

Newbie here. Do you typically replace the NAS devices every 5 years as suggested, and do you use NVMe RAM for the cache? I was considering this route but ultimately chose to just use a T7 due to cost

Ah disappointing to hear. Guess I'll have to cancel. I was wanting something that can hold 2 3.5 HDD. Thanks.

Honestly I wouldn't be able to answer your questions. I'm trying to put together my first NAS and still learning. Hopefully someone else here can.

If I buy a 5060 SFF, any recommendation for M.2 NVMe PCIe drive? Samsung 970 EVO Plus? Crucial P5 Plus?

sounds awesome. I really want the MT to get the kid a new gaming PC. How did you install a 1660 in there when it requires 8pin power?

That was the exact machine I got last night. Did the 512GB SSD come with SATA or PCIe NVMe interface? Thanks.
How much were these?

That didn't seem to be the case when I checked earlier.
