I got four of these when they were a buck each last year.


Simple to unlock with eBay unlock codes.

The guy I used was "unlocker-pro".

He charges $1.50 per code but I think I offered $1 each for four codes and he accepted my offer.

Search for: "Alcatel LinkZone Modem MW40 MW41 MW43TM BT70 L850V Y800Z Network Unlock Code"


This is the way I remember doing it:

1. Change the SIM with another network provider's SIM.

2. Connect to a PC with a USB cable.

3. Open the WebUI of the Alcatel LinkZone 2.

4. If prompted, log in with the admin.

5. It will prompt for unlock code.

6. Enter the unlock code from eBay

7. Now your Alcatel LinkZone 2 will be unlocked permanently.

I don't see any reason to activate it at all.


Just get the unlock code from eBay and follow the instructions to unlock and you're good to go with any SIM, no matter where in the world you're at.


PS: From what I remember if the unit does a firmware update you'll just have to reenter the unlock code again. I printed out my code and put the little piece of paper under the battery in case I ever need it again.

It depends on the color of the SIM you receive:

Orange/White SIMs use T-Mobile
Black SIMs use AT&T

Boost Mobile (also Ting and Republic Wireless) are owned by DISH Network; but they don't own the underlying telecom infrastructure. So, they end up piggybacking on one of the big3's networks.

Forgive the dumb question... If I get a Verizon SIM card for this then it will connect with Verizon towers, correct?

My T-Mobile internet gets zero reception up North on vacation but my friend's Verizon works fine and I would like to use this for internet that week to utilize Verizon's network.

This is my same problem. Yes - you'd need to purchase an unlock code for it (ebay - check here for the in depth post) and then program the APN with Verizon and should be good to go. I purchased one last night for the exact same reason. I'll have my friend get a Verizon SIM for me to use on their plan as non-Verizon customers are forced to purchase the $90 hotspot plan (not the cheap one that Verizon customers can get).

How tough is it to get a Verizon SIM card then? The unlock codes seem super easy to grab off Ebay. But aren't SIM cards registered to accounts and need to be signed up for?

Again, sorry about my ignorance on all this stuff...

I'm sure this is within this thread with lots of information. But, I couldn't find a straight answer. Which is if I bought this with my normal credit card, if I do not activate it will the $10 charge automatically be charged to me?

Answering my own question, yes I need to cancel.

Just got it but idk how to get unlocked. i tried above mentioned step but there is no pop up for code when I plug in to my mac

Edit : I was able to unlock but now I put Tmobile sim it shows 2G signal but nothing is top right connection status... looking over internet as I am commenting will update if I find something

Called in to cancel my Boost mobile service, the rep was very quick to understand my reasoning, entire call lasted 4 minutes. It's unfortunate you can't do it online, but either way I had already shut off the virtual card that I used for the service anyway, was more doing it as a test to see how well it went and if they would give me any trouble. Simply stated that I found a better deal on another provider and would be moving over to them instead. Definitely goes against the horror stories I've heard from others that the rep tried to force them to stay on or keep service.

Got mine to work for ATT if anyone interest.

using the APN : ENHANCEDPHONE

after unlock code input

Go To Settings, then Network Settings

Under "APN," click "new" and then enter the Profile Name : ENHANCEDPHONE

Under APN enter : ENHANCEDPHONE

PDP Type is IPV4V6.

No authentication.

Save and reboot.

simcard never worked in my alcatel, i also signed up to give boost a shot. figured 2gb for $10 is a good deal and paypal as my buffer. after 4hrs of 'support' and 2 sim cards that worked in my iphone i'm now waiting to have boost call me back to cancel. what a lame nightmare this was.. does anything work out of the box anymore??

Device is unlocked
Popped in my t-mobile Sim card
I get no internet signal.
Popped Sim card back on my phone and internet works great.
Can someone help a brother out?

Without having much information to go on my first guess would be the SIM you're using may not allow hotspot traffic.


Not every SIM is provisioned to work in a hotspot.
