I got four of these when they were a buck each last year.


Simple to unlock with eBay unlock codes.

The guy I used was "unlocker-pro".

He charges $1.50 per code but I think I offered $1 each for four codes and he accepted my offer.

Search for: "Alcatel LinkZone Modem MW40 MW41 MW43TM BT70 L850V Y800Z Network Unlock Code"


This is the way I remember doing it:

1. Change the SIM with another network provider's SIM.

2. Connect to a PC with a USB cable.

3. Open the WebUI of the Alcatel LinkZone 2.

4. If prompted, log in with the admin.

5. It will prompt for unlock code.

6. Enter the unlock code from eBay

7. Now your Alcatel LinkZone 2 will be unlocked permanently.

I don't see any reason to activate it at all.


Just get the unlock code from eBay and follow the instructions to unlock and you're good to go with any SIM, no matter where in the world you're at.


PS: From what I remember if the unit does a firmware update you'll just have to reenter the unlock code again. I printed out my code and put the little piece of paper under the battery in case I ever need it again.

It depends on the color of the SIM you receive:

Orange/White SIMs use T-Mobile
Black SIMs use AT&T

Boost Mobile (also Ting and Republic Wireless) are owned by DISH Network; but they don't own the underlying telecom infrastructure. So, they end up piggybacking on one of the big3's networks.

I think you're fine.

I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread that after you update firmware you need to enter your unlock code again.

I printed out a copy of my unlock code and put it under the battery so I'd always have it if needed again.

dealing with exactly this right now - so annoying, they kept asking what hotspot android or iphone. im like HOT SPOT.. smh. i did a chargeback with paypal so far so good, i wish they would let me send this hot garbage back.

Need Help: I just ordered one of these, from the link in the thread, I checked out and paid and setup the Account, under Order History I just see an order for a 2GB Talk Text Data plan but there is no mention of Hotspot in my order, then I again went back to add same item into the cart, and I don't see Hotspot showing up in cart, its just the plan.. i rushed checking out?

Was there someone else in this situation? should I cancel the order? or Hotspot will get sent out even if the Cart and Order history don't show it for me?

Please advise

hotspot did not and will not show up for me. thank god i used paypal for order 1 2 weeks ago and for last week amex. both already gave me my money back and i ahve this trash sitting on my desk.

i refuse to walk into a boost, if i cant even send them an email, their employees have to be even stupider and waste my time more.

Adding a data point for the positive side. Everything worked (got a white sim so TMobile). Got the ebay unlock, unlocked, firmware update, then had to unlock again. Everything worked great. About a week before the next months payment processing date, I called and canceled. No problem at all. No need to pay extra for the hotspot or anything else. As advertised, $10 plus tax/fee for one month of service and a free hotspot. A-OK process for me.

I agree with boost most likely having the best plan at $10/month for 2gb of 5g. I was going to get this unlocked but figure I might as well just leave it with boost for the time being.
