I own a bunch of different Switch controllers (including several of this line) so I feel like I'm qualified to talk about these.

TL;DR: These are fantastic controllers at this price point but if you want to spend a little more, there are some better options without spending the money on the Switch Pro Controller.

Pros:
* Good ergonomics
* Buttons and thumbsticks are acceptable and better than what we used to get from companies like Mad Catz back in the Gamecube/PS2 era.
* Fantastic designs ... most of the time. This is of course subjective but I really feel like PowerA has designed some really cool looking controllers this generation.
* Headset/headphone port if your game supports it.
* Removable cord for easy storage. Sadly Power A put a notch in it so be prepared to do some modding if you need to swap the cable.

Cons:
* Wired only. These aren't wireless controllers. Maybe that's important to you. For me it's a 50:50 issue with no charging but also having to deal with wires.
* No Rumble. A lot of games need the rumble to just feel right. A lot of games don't need rumble at all. I don't miss rumble on a majority of games but hey, we've had this feature forever and it's too bad PowerA doesn't want to include it when tons of other controllers do include it.
* No motion controls. A positive for Mario Kart but some games really require their use.
* No Amiibo support. This is neutral to me as I have never used an Amiibo and you can always just use your joycons for that.
* The sticks are a little less nice than the Pro Controller ones and feel a bit more plasticky. This is the case of the shell as well. That said, these are less than 1/3 the cost of a Nintendo made Pro Controller.

Who should buy these?
I recommend these to the following people:
* People who like to collect cool, functional products of characters they like. I bought an Isabelle one on sale because she's cute and own the Hylian shield because it looks great. Maybe get some controller stands to display them.
* People with kids who all want to play Kirby or Mario 3D World together. They can each get their favorite character on a controller and you save the good Pro controllers for mom and dad.

What I might recommend instead
* Power A Enhanced Wireless controller if you can get it around $30
* Horipad Mini if you have small children with tiny hands

Nice username. Looking for a FL5 but it is exceptionally hard to get at MSRP or with a reasonable markup.

I would never recommend a PowerA controller at any price. The sticks will drift in 6 months of casual use.

I have the 360 wired USB version of this for my PC (looks nearly the same - I would imagine much of the same guts). One went back to PowerA for warranty replacement for drift, and the replacement had drift shortly after.

I've only used PowerA since buying my switch in 2019 and have had no problems, except one of the buttons on our oldest controller went out eventually. But it was our most used controller.. For this price point, if you're OK with wired, this is a no brainer.

I have two PowerA controllers. One drifted (backwards) within a month or two. PowerA replaced it for free. Other one is still good. My understanding is drift is an issue even for OEM controllers

Correct, unless you upgrade to hall effect analog sticks the controller will always be susceptible to drift as it's inherit to the design. Repeated calobrations can mitigate drift but not eliminate it, ya need hall effect sticks. Magic Magnets 🧲

I'm more interested if all their controllers are common ground pcbs. Cheap diy arcade sticks.

Anyone have good source for replacement wires? I've got 2 of these controllers but both wires are mangled and the micro usb cables in the house don't fit due to their design.

Figured I'd throw this out there for any of you collectors out there. I've compiled a full list of every single Zelda edition controller made. If you're curious which ones you're missing, take a look

I have a Power A xbox wired controller that my son and I have been using for two years and there is no stick drift. Stick drift is a possibility no matter the manufacturer and it's luck of the draw. I'd rather get a cheaper controller that feels nice than spend $70 to have the same problem with an official controller.
