Got this last year for same price on sale. It was a pain to put together but is gorgeous.

Now a year later in the hot CA sun the wood seems to be splitting on the posts. I have long term concerns over this but unrealistic to disassemble and return. Beware

Agreed. A full day for 2 people. A 3rd or 4th person when installing the roof will be handy.

Marketplace/CL are good places to find people that assemble these. It's surprising to most people that there are businesses that ONLY serve to assemble these DIY things like gazebos, play sets, etc. Long story short, I have a high school kid that does lawn stuff for me (grunt work like clearing land, spreading mulch, etc) and after he noticed me putting up one of these (and a playset later in the summer), he got into installing them on the side. Perfect job for industrious and responsible youngsters.

Bc the labor price would be more then the gazebo for them to make a profit...by all accounts it's a 8-10hr for experienced folks. 2 days for novice

Did you stain the gazebo?

I read advice to stain the gazebo asap.

Bought a 12x14 a few months back and it took us 6-7 days to assemble it one by one and stand it up. Beware that you will need at least 4-5 people when installing the roof. Once installed it looks great though!!

I have had the 12x12 version for about 7 years now. It's bolted to my concrete patio as I am in a high wind area and it stood up to 90mph wind that toppled a tree next to it.

It did develop small vertical cracks a year in, but hasn't got any worse since. I use Thompson on it 3rd year in and will probably redo it again this summer.

The thin roof has gotten dings from hail damage but other than that it's been pretty solid. I would recommend yardistry units based on my experience.

What you are describing is known as "checking" in wood and is both completely normal and not a structural issue. It is just the separation of the natural grain lines and happens to pretty much all timber especially when under compression like a post is.

I assume you stained it after a few months like the manufacturer recommends?

I read a review saying theres extra holes etc that dont get used. Kinda so each post can be installed in several different places.

Thus each post legit has open unused holes, from the factory.

Obvi water ingress etc could be an issue, leaving the home owner to glue in a dowel and seal etc.

Can ne1 confirm? Bc thats annoying
I just built the 12x14. I'm sure this uses the same legs. There were no unused holes in the legs. Sounds like the reviewer did something wrong.
