What *was* successful were the just add water mosquito traps you hang up around your yard. Looking at the ingredients it's mainly sugar and some yeast. Which produces CO2 and then drowns the mosquito when they go to investigate. They get marketed under a bunch of different brands but we found them at the local hardware store.
And also making sure the environment is not attracting mosquitoes, like removing standing water.
Best thing for mosquitoes is a fan. Mosquitos are weak fliers and will get blown away.
If you have power available away from your primary space, I feel it is worth this price - I believe I paid $80 or something back then. You should start it early in the season before mosquitos are an issue and just run it until you're done outside for the year.
I have had one for a few years. We actually use it indoors at night. Works great on moths, flies, fruit flies, and gnats at least! We have 5 dogs so the doors get opened a lot and the flying critters come indoors any time lights are on indoors and it is dark outdoors. One day I decided to try turning it on in the kitchen overnight and it worked!
Bulbs are EXPENSIVE. Cheaper to buy this unit on sale for its 3 bulbs than to just buy the bulbs.
