The account is backed by Goldman Sachs - a bank.
Goldman Sachs is also one of the banks that the US government has deemed "essential", meaning they will print as much money needed to keep it afloat if there's any trouble.

I did overstate the tax advantage, but VMFXX is about 38% U.S. government obligations, so there is substantial savings at the state level. I thought local would generally exempt U.S. govt obligations as well, but I am not familiar with any local tax situations.
VMFXX isn't FDIC insured. It is safer to go with VUSXX, which is essentially the same as FDIC insured. It's a lower rate, but gives peace of mind.

Why?
.
I'm not the person you asked but for me it's the 2-3% cashback. I have other cards that are 3-5% in specific categories but for everyday tap to pay, Apple Card 2-3% is my most common

Good deal if you don't have anything right now but a hassle if you have this through other credit card and savings accounts

I already have an Apple Card, so why are they asking for my social again? Do they do a credit pull to open the savings account?
You enter your SSN and declare you're not subject to backup withholding

Are you on iOS 16.4? It's required.

Before jumping on this, just do a quick research. Lots of banks are now offering 4%+ interest with no min deposit. Fidelity, Capital One, etc...

That is not accurate. You will get a hard pull if you accept the card.

When you apply for an Apple Card, if they accept you, they will make an offer, showing you what credit limit they will give you.

You can then either choose to accept or decline.

If you decline, then it'll only be a soft pull on your credit.
If you accept, you will get a hard pull, just like with any other card.
There's a caveat to this. If you do the pre-qualification and are approved, you then lock your credit reports before you accept the offer and voila, no hard pull. This is a known workaround that has been widely discussed that does actually work.

CFG Bank for the win! They are currently the highest rate available without jumping through many hoops. Currently 5.02% APY with $1k min to keep account from charging a fee. They have a long history of staying in the top 5 highest rates.

Just recently opened an account with SoFi after being with a regional bank for years. I've been amazed
with the convenience of having most of my finances in one place (banking, brokerage, credit card). They're expected to bump up their savings rate from 4% to keep pace with the Fed. It's great to see companies like Apple also start to offer savings account features. This seems to validate what other Neobanks are attempting to do. That said, Apple falls way short of what SoFi has packaged up and I will remain there until there is something better.

I was declined for the Apple Card and not sure why. My credit is excellent, 825+, 6 figure income, very low debt, around 1% credit utilization, so I have no idea why I was declined .
