If the surface go is $500 at bestbuy, while $599 at Costco, it tells me that I am really only effectively getting $100 for my trade-in.

This isn't a slick deal for the Surface Laptop Go. But it might be a good deal for a more expensive laptop & $300 trade in, assuming you can meet the trade in conditions, which is dicy.

Under 'Can I Claim' in website they have a list of laptops that are eligible for trade in and most models they are asking for (check sku number) are very recent , like 1 year old. Not sure how everyone is assuming non brand old laptops will be eligible

Only 8 GB of memory. Soldered, so not expandable. Hard pass; at least 16 GB is needed for Windows 10 or 11, imo.

Your opinion is misguided. There is a lot of work that can be accomplished with 8GB of RAM. This is a small computer, it's not going to be anyone's primary device.

I have a Lenova Thinkpad Z710 manufactured in September 2018. It is not on the list of eligible laptops - what's up with that, Costco? It powers up, et al, it's new enough, and lord knows it's a pricier laptop than many of the eligible ones listed
