I have a variant of this laptop. This is a decent deal, but a word of warning: it's a TN panel, not IPS. They try to have it both ways by calling it "IPS-level," but no matter what you call it, the colors wash out or invert if you view it from anywhere other than straight ahead. It's also not bright enough to use outdoors. That's ok for many users, but less good for situations like heavy outdoors use or groups watching a film on it.

I completely agree. great laptop for our office assistants to use. they like the bigger screen and the dedicated numbers pad, while still being portable. 250nits is bright enough for office work. and the processor is more than adequate for our office software.

This is also a great choice for a student looking for a budget laptop.

No lighted keyboard, and I speak from experience that these Asus machines need em.

I'm waiting for the first comment where someone complains that this computer is inferior compared to a laptop that costs 3x as much.

I'm looking for a cheap laptop for my kid to play minecraft on. Not sure if the on-board graphics can handle it. Any idea?

I would think on low settings should be fine. But I would try to get something with at least a 12th gen i5 and 16 gigs of ram. That way it can be little more future proof.

Yes, some folks do seem to actually complain like they are entitled to every desire/feature imaginable for under $400. Some ask for comparisons to completely different types of laptops. It's just how every laptop deal thread goes if it stays active for more than a little while. I'm used to it. Almost every first post involves the screen's specs. You seldom have to wait for that to be pointed out.

There are so many boxes to tick off for each person there is no such thing as one that can please most, let alone all of us.

Yes, this is NOT a real IPS display, according to Asus themselves:

(Any way to CORRECT THE FALSE INFO in the OP?)

No touchscreen, no lit keyboard, no SD card slot, limited upgrades.

There's no difference in performance between the iGPU of the i3 and i5. In fact it would only create more of a GPU bottleneck for no reason. The i3 has more power than the iGPU can even handle so getting a faster cpu won't make ANY difference.

Watch this video.
This is for the i3 1215u which is similar to this processor. And see if this is the kind of gaming experience you want your son to have

Maybe perhaps look for a system with a ryzen processor. That uses Radeon graphics. I have an older ryzen 7 3700u that plays rocket league surprisingly well and AMD definitely has come out with better onboard graphics on their mobile chips since then.
