If you are already planning mods, you are better off buying something that's already brushless and 4x4. Modding is a slippery slope and you want to start with a good roller. Personally I'm getting a hpi savage xs flux and calling it a day.

4WD is probably easier for a beginner. It will generally cost more. I bought the Arrma Granite 4WD [horizonhobby.com]for my son as his 1st car and it's been great. Their 2WD [horizonhobby.com] is many peoples 1st foray in to RC cars as it used to hit $99 or less but I haven't seen it on sale in a while.

Love the RC deals. This is brushed and 2WD, but it's still a great deal. Losi is a good hobby-grade brand.

this is a good fun truggy. but if you're gonna end up upgrading it with brushless, more power, etc. go for the brushless kit. there's a bunch of upgrades on components one step up.

Is 4x4 the way to go then? I should skip this then?

4WD is much easier to drive in the dirt. And 4WD with a gyro (aka automatic vehicle steering correction) is the ultimate for driving on loose surfaces. But those will both add a bit of cost to the package.

I love horizon hobby. I sent my Truggy for repair and didn't include the wheel and cover. The technician found the car has some issues and replaced many parts for me, he even gave me new tires and cover. 😂😂😂😂😂

I was tempted as well but you should skip. With these off roaders you want 4x4 if not you'll probably get stuck every once in a while.

They have 1/12 RC. Anyone know if it is fun for 6 years old?
