I saw the LTT video, and it's apparent there are some things you've missed.

It's easy for the misinformed to lump all these media boxes into one basket.

for ease of understanding, lets break these into two camps:

1. ANDROID TV boxes: as they're commonly referred to, sold by the hundreds on Amazon, Ebay, ect...= no name boxes with cellphone internals and custom GUI <-----where you're going to find hacked firmware. LTT tells you to stay away from this type.

2. GOOGLE TV, sometimes even found built in to television brands. NVidia Shield TV, Xiaomi Mi Box, this ONN media player, and a very few other = are licensed, they run actual Google Tv interface and apps are upgraded via the Play Store. Firmware also upgradable, unlike the former. Chances of running into spyware? not impossible, but often less likely.

For everyone wondering and those that are disputing, the walmart onn media streaming box is better than the amazon firestick, better than xiomi, comparable to the nvidia shield and the amazon fire tv. For $20, it runs the google playstore directly very well - no hack needed and performance is pretty solid. If you don't buy the walmart branded onn media streaming box, then you have made the wrong decision..

Using YouTube TV on this and keep having sound issues when changing channels. Maybe a HDMI issue or 5.1 format issue between onn box and Yamaha receiver? Any thoughts? I have onn box audio settings on automatic detect.

Picked one up at the Cheektowaga, NY Walmart. They had at least 15-20 of them in behind the glass. UI seems to be pretty snappy. There was an Android update right out of the box. For $20 this is a no brainer.

Plenty available in Florida. Grabbed one yesterday to replace a shitty fire cube. I had so many issues with the fire cube, it needs to be unplugged daily. This device so far is fast and running good . It had an update out the box. Running 4k HDR like a champ. Plays any 4k rip I threw at it via plex . No Dolby vision but I don't need it I have all samsung tvs.

Informed by electronics at my Walmart that they aren't to be put out or sold until May 1. Polite request to sell me 1 was declined.

This is consistent with others' posts here. Thus, at this time it's a YMMV deal.

Is there something wrong with your chromecast? Mine's not really slow at all? Apps load in 2-4 seconds, fast forwarding netflix/youtube TV has really no lag at all. Only app I find slow is the prime video app. I have an NVidia Shield, and that thing is really fast, but I certainly wouldn't call the chromecast slow.
