Just my ¢.02, but I've been using the 5700 for nearly 3 years and played a multitude of VR games with no issues relating to my GPU.

Oh, man. It would be really... financially imprudent of me to buy this right now, but I've been waiting for this exact 6800gt since BF. It'll be twice as much as I've ever paid for a graphics card, but I am purchasing mainly for VR gaming. The 6800xt, by my limited research looking at 4k specs on tomshardware, is a significant step up from the 6750xt and down.

It'll just be a fantastic bonus that I can run basically anything at 1440p as well. I'm gonna have to stare at it in the cart another hour.

Two questions. OK, three questions. Thanks in advance.
  1. How good bad is the free The Last of Us game ?
  2. How hard is it to reclaim the free game after Amaon emails you the game code
  3. If you transfer the same card to a different PC can you transfer the game?

The reason I ask is the AMD Ryzen game bundles were near impossible to get after you jumped through all the hoops. I bought a PowerColor Fighter RX 6600 but get the same free game.
1. the last of us is super famous for being a very good game. after many years of waiting, everyone is complaining that the pc version is not optimized and needs vram

Lucky for you guys who haven't already purchased a 6800XT. I bought mine new-open box back in July of last year for $612 on eBay, the ASUS Tuff version and it's still holding strong to this day using it everyday. Once the 6950XT gets down to $600 or below then I'll consider upgrading to that as well.

I've been using since launch, and card is still a champ. Honestly, I prefer it over my 3080, with the exception of DLSS.
None of the 30 series cards have enough VRAM. I was going to get the 3070, but didn't due to price. Really glad I got the 6700XT. The extra VRAM is huge on some games.

If the rumors are true about a $50 rebate/discount on an Nvidia 4070, would it be better to buy that instead for $30 more?

I'm by no means an expert, but several benchmarks place the 6800xt about neck-and-neck with the rtx 3080, with some games performing better per card. Specifically, Half Life:Alyx saw better performance from the 6800xt. And it's significantly cheaper. I would prefer an nVidia card, but their price to performance beats my already very strained budget.
They play VR games fine in my experience but high resolution 3d VR video playback is pretty hit and miss and often a mess. Some kind of codec or hardware acceleration issue.

Here's another thing in the mix, that I got in this morning's Tom's Hardware email feed:

RTX 4070 might fall to $549. nVidia is offering a $50 rebate to resellers, that the resellers might or might not pass on to consumers.

What seems to be happening is 4000 series is laying an egg, and price pressure by AMD RX cards is extreme. Sure nVidia is still the market leader by a large margin over AMD, but markets shift based on price.
nvidia won't lower their price…there's no "mix", and 50$ rebate is nothing

Aren't AMD cards known to be poor performers with VR games?
no. This is only on some titles with the 7000 series, they're ironing the drivers out still

it should beat the 3080..it's more closer to the 3080ti but not quite there (depending on the title)

Demand for gpu really fell off a cliff lately, expect price cuts and production cuts soon... sadly nvidia cant cut production more than 30 days which is a concession at the discretion of tsmc.. obviously this will drop older tech prices even more

One good thing about Radeon GPUs are with driver update, you will get more performance and AMD keep updating!!

Also 16GB GDDR6 memory is great!!!

My grandmother even knows about the game. I think OP is asking how does it perform...

It's a horrendous port.

That depends on how important it is to you to have a low power card, a short card, and the benefit of nVidia drivers / features. The 6800 XT / 6900 XT / 6950 XT with 16 GB vRAM probably beat the 4070 in terms of pure raster performance.

But if you have a compelling reason for wanting a 4070 such as a short case that won't fit those longer cards or you have a weak power supply and like the idea of a single 8 pin plug card and not having to upgrade your PSU then the 4070 becomes compelling.

I'm in a situation where I would prefer a shorter card with a lower PSU requirement, but I want to see what AMD's 7700 XT and 7800 XT offerings look like first as I'm guessing they won't be crippled and headed for early obsolescence with only 12 GB of vRAM. nVidia really screwed up by not giving the 4070's 16 GB of RAM, which seems criminal for an $800 card like the 4070 TI.

For $80, no doubt I'd take the 6950XT. You get about 15-20% more performance.

That's a 3 slot card that needs a higher watt psu as well
