Just my ¢.02, but I've been using the 5700 for nearly 3 years and played a multitude of VR games with no issues relating to my GPU.

Oh, man. It would be really... financially imprudent of me to buy this right now, but I've been waiting for this exact 6800gt since BF. It'll be twice as much as I've ever paid for a graphics card, but I am purchasing mainly for VR gaming. The 6800xt, by my limited research looking at 4k specs on tomshardware, is a significant step up from the 6750xt and down.

It'll just be a fantastic bonus that I can run basically anything at 1440p as well. I'm gonna have to stare at it in the cart another hour.

That's a 3 slot card that needs a higher watt psu as well
I mean that goes without saying. We're talking about not even 100w difference. Get an appropriate PSU for your rig.

Or get an appropriate card that actually fits

That depends on how important it is to you to have a low power card, a short card, and the benefit of nVidia drivers / features. The 6800 XT / 6900 XT / 6950 XT with 16 GB vRAM probably beat the 4070 in terms of pure raster performance.

But if you have a compelling reason for wanting a 4070 such as a short case that won't fit those longer cards or you have a weak power supply and like the idea of a single 8 pin plug card and not having to upgrade your PSU then the 4070 becomes compelling.

I'm in a situation where I would prefer a shorter card with a lower PSU requirement, but I want to see what AMD's 7700 XT and 7800 XT offerings look like first as I'm guessing they won't be crippled and headed for early obsolescence with only 12 GB of vRAM. nVidia really screwed up by not giving the 4070's 16 GB of RAM, which seems criminal for an $800 card like the 4070 TI.
The reason I would like the lower power of the 4070 is hopefully quieter performance and less heat.

Right now Microcenter is offering $100 Steam giftcard with 4070's. I would have bit if they had not sold out of the Asus Dual Fan OC.

you can just use a different currency on steam like turkey or Argentina and everything is dirt cheap

For anyone who cares, I got the Asrock Phantom 6800XT OC before black Friday for around $530 from newegg. However, it also had a $20 rebate from Asrock that I got w/o any issues. I also had a Capital One Venture X card that gave be cash back rewards of 23%. Other's had a big discount if paying through Affirm (I think this is no longer available). IMO the Capital One rewards is the key here and you all may be able to get it too if you have the card. Here's how I and others (search reddit) got it.
  1. Install the Capital One Shopping browser plug in and link up your Capital One Venture X card or other eligible card.
  2. Ensure all contact info for your card and Capital One Shopping goes to an email you monitor and won't get filtered for spam
  3. Ensure plugin is active and poke around on the newegg site. Put this in your cart and click through to purchase even entering your card info, but do not place the order, just stop at the final step
  4. If you're lucky, you'll get an email with a "special offer" anywhere from 30 min to 24 hours later. You need to click through the email link and it'll up the rewards from the standard for newegg to the email offer rate.
  5. Make your purchase.
This works for almost any retailer that the shopping rewards works for. I've had it work for faucets in my cart from Home Depot and other large ticket items from Home Depot and Lowes.

All in all, my 6800XT was less than $400 before tax. Some got it for close to $300 with stacking the Affirm and Capital One rewards.
This is exactly how I got mine. My Asrock Taichi 6800XT was priced at $540 at Newegg. I used Affirm or Zip Pay (lol, can't remember right now) which gave an 11% discount which brought it down to $480.00 I used a link from an email I got from Capital One Rewards and got 30% back in rewards off the $480.00. So all in was $336! I used the $144 to get a gift card from Home Depot and bought a Ryobi vacuum with it.

This card is already big.... If it can fit this, then it can probably fit a 6950xt. And the tdp isn't that different and the in game power draw difference is even less.

I have a 6950 XT running in the house on a 650w Corsair PSU without issue 🤷. I think more then 750w or 850w is getting into overkill range.

nah this is a 2 slot..6950xt is a 3 slot and generally requires 3x8 pins..
650w is pushing the power supply..not good to have it running near peak

It's not even close to peak 24/7.

Under full power overclocked stress test with a 7600x, total system power consumption is only 500w or less.

Gaming it's around 200-400. Whole system.

Idle is less then 30 whole system.

It's the same tdp as a 3080 and has better transients and is more efficient. You need a better psu for a 3080 then you do for a 6950 XT.

A nice 500w supply would work, but that would certainly be starting to push things tight.

Power supplies aren't 100% efficient..there's 20%+ efficiency losses across the board.
please learn how electricity works before you blow up your psu

🤣🤣🤣 Dude..... It's maximum tdp is only 35w more then this 6800xt. Chill out.

Most good power supplies are 90% efficient or more under most loads and can easily go over thier maximum load and just turn off when power usage goes too high.

It's never pulled more then 575w from the wall, which is only an 88% load and that's under synthetic stress testing with overclocks.

Gaming loads are a good bit less.

The 650w is fine and in a great range for efficiency. More then 750w would be wasteful and more then 850w would just be silly.

is this worth the upgrade from my current system?
I play apex legends and I want to be able to play at consistent 240-360 at medium settings.
At the moment, I play everything on lowest settings, with textures and streaming budgets off and during key gameplay moments such as fights with other teams, I have FPS drops.

I would not be looking to upgrade again in the future for at least another 3-5 years.
This is my current specs. Thank you for any replies..

MOBO: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WIFI)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700x, 8-core 3700mhz (16 logical)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (MECH OC) 8GB
RAM: 32GB DDR4

KEY NOTE: I do plan on building out a new system for this card, but for now I will be using this one as a placeholder until I gather all necessary parts. Just wanted feedback for if t his card would be okay on this system until i build out a new pc for it and if the card is powerful enough for my needs.
