Delve into the gritty and atmospheric world of Risen, where every action has a consequence. Master the sword, learn the art of staff fighting, or become a powerful mage, forging your path across a land filled with mysterious earthquakes, fearsome monsters, and unimaginable treasures. Faranga needs a new hero – will you heed the call?
It is an excellent game by the makers of the Gothic series. It is a deep RPG with loads of choices & consequences, stuff to explore, and new ways to die. It is a 2009 PC game that was just released for Switch/PS4.
I played several hours on the Switch version (handheld) and it translates very well to that format. I still prefer to play on PC and naturally the Steam Deck offers more ways to may things (it is a PC game so it is very happy to allow you to map weapons 1-9 to the trackpad, etc).
I'd rate it below Gothic 1 & 2, but above Gothic 3, the other two Risen games, about equal with Elex and definitely above Elex 2.

New to Piranha Bytes games and this is my entry into their mechanics. A lot of jank but that's expected and it adds to the charm if you are able to forgive the low budget quirks. Good game so far, about 50 hours in. I got it for $10 during GS B1G1 free deal last weekend
This game was hot dog meat when it was released in...2010? An advance copy of it was "leaked" to torrent sites a couple months early back then and it was theorized to contain a bit of extra code to identify if you had a modded disc drive to play backups on the 360, since we were all banned shortly after.
Why is this being brought back? Was it...uhh...improved somehow? I remember this specifically not being fun at all lol.

Agreed. Great game, VERY obvious upgrades to visuals (not like Kingdom of Amalur Re-reckoning). If you have Xbox, look on eBay for digital purchase - I got mine for $12 and redeemed w/ VPN via Argentina.
