I don't think you are understanding this deal. You get $1000 plus 3.5% interest. It's around a 7.5% return.

Yes I've used them for a long time. They are decent, but they will create new accounts with higher rates and not move existing customers to the new rate. But they make it easy to open a new account with the higher rate and transfer the money over. So you have to keep checking that you are getting the best rate. If you're okay with that, I can recommend them.

The transfer function of most online banks allows you to do large sums. I have some that limit the amount and frequency, but usually you can use another bank to push or pull a higher amount of money from the first bank.

At Fidelity brokerage you can get all kinds of CD's right now in the 5-5.1% APY from many banks for terms of 6-12month . All FDIC insured. And no promo needed. Only a $1000 minimum per CD. I'd say that beats pretty much everything.
