They are called mecanum wheels, and basically allow the robot to move sideways without turning.

Any engineer able to explain the wheel design? Rollers used as tire tread?

edit: thanks to multiple people for explaining that's how it turns rather than actually rotating the wheel itself

must be away 2 hrs max. only 1 hr during night time.

Have any of you heard of a Rovio? I got one year and years ago and it was a lot of fun. I also helped an app developer test his rovio control app. Basically it was a robot like this that ran off wifi and had 2 way audio/video and you couldn't raise the camera to different levels. Could drive it from anywhere in the world and talk to people around the house LOL
